Hincapie Sportswear Caravel Jacket

Riding in a fill-jacket is, well, non-traditional to say the least. Then again, Hincapie Sportswear couldn't be further from a cookie-cutter apparel maker. However, regardless of the back story, the Caravel Jacket works. We wouldn't recommend riding a century in it, but a quick ride to the cafe for a coffee date is certainly on the agenda for the Caravel.
To achieve this balance between lifestyle and sport, Hincapie had to rethink the basic principles of 'down jacket' technology. Accordingly, it realized that not only was traditional down non-applicable for the task of riding, but so were most synthetics. This led Hincapie to the door step of two overlooked materials -- Gossamer E5 Micro Ripstop and Eco2sy. The E5 fabric is what comprises the exterior of the Caravel, and if your nautical history is up to snuff, the material and jacket name begin to correlate. E5 Micro features a water- and wind-resistant coating that, if you were on one of the 15th century Portuguese Caravel vessels, would have been a godsend. Fun fact, the Caravel also plays to Big George's Portuguese lineage. However, back on track, this material was developed to stave off light rains and heavy winds. It's also highly breathable, and with its key attribute of resistance to ripping and puncturing, you won't have to worry about being that sloppy guy on the train car with his winter jacket duct taped together.
This leads us to the next material, Eco2sy. Hincapie used this for the jacket's fill in order to maximize its insulation properties. However, unlike many natural and synthetic fills, Eco2sy features a feathery light weight and malleable composition. In fact, this material is a key contributor to the Caravel's ultra-low 47 gram construction, and its ability to be packed into a jersey pocket. Even better, Eco2sy is a recycled material -- providing the warm fuzzies that are most likely absent from your wardrobe.
As for the hardware of the jacket, the front pockets feature internal shock cords for a simplified adjustment process. And on the subject of pockets, the Caravel has two zippered hand pockets and an internal zippered pocket for all of your storage.
The Hincapie Sportswear Caravel Jacket is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the color Gunmetal.
Unless it's tailored, clothing is generally just made for the average body shape, given a size, and sold. You're left having to be satisfied with the closest fit available. This is not the case with Troy Lee Designs Skyline Shorts. With waist and length adjustments, the Skyline can be custom-fit to your exact specifications.
The Skyline's main body is made with two-way stretch lightweight breathable polyester, so you won't ever feel it bind as you contort in mid-air. A large stretch panel at the back gives you even more freedom of movement. The fabric lets your skin breathe to regulate its temperature while it wicks moisture away. Pockets are located on the sides of the legs so you can't feel the contents while you pedal. At the waist there are tabs that allow you to adjust the waistband for a perfect custom fit. Skyline Shorts also have adjustments at the cuffs so you can change the length of the short as well.

Troy Lee Designs Skyline Shorts are available in even sizes from 30 to 38. They come in Black, Dark Green, Yellow, Red, and Blue.

Prologo's saddles are placed into one of three categories based on their shape. Flat, semi-round, or round. The Scratch Pro Plus Ti 1.4 Saddle lands in the third category. Its rounded shape makes it a good choice for riders who tend to stay seated, even while climbing.
Like all Prologo saddles, the Scratch Pro Ti 1.4 has a variable stiffness frame (the portion that attaches to the rails), in this case made of injected carbon. Varying the stiffness allows the frame to flex in the middle, which leads to better shock absorption and less rider fatigue. Above the frame, the multi-density foam is softer in the mid-section, reflecting the same principles applied to the construction of the frame, and firmer at the paddle (the widest portion), where you sit.
Prologo also endows the Ti 1.4 with something they call Easy Stroke Design, or ESD, where the width dramatically tapers toward the nose. Think of this like a deeper slot for the stroke of your leg, with less friction between inner thigh and edge of the saddle and far more efficient power transmission.
The Ti 1.4 rests on nickel coated titanium rails. The nickel coating adds a few grams, but it also boosts the durability of the saddle. This, combined with a tough microfiber cover, makes the Ti 1.4 suitable not just for the road, but also a great saddle for cyclocross and mountain biking.
Prologo's Scratch Pro Ti 1.4 Saddle is available in 134mm and 143mm widths and comes in Black/black and White/white color schemes.

Originally planned on coming early but the weather was turning me off since there was rain predicted in the afternoon. However, the skiing bug got me and I decided to maked the hour and forty minute trek to Killington listening to reggae on the The Joint on Sirrus/XM radio for the ride there to get me stoked.

When I got there, I was excited to get out! My first run was around 1 with hopes to get four runs in. I have to admit, I have not skied bumps for quite some time since I tore my ACL two years ago. My wife and I skied Stein's Run at Sugarbush but that was nothing compared to Suparstar and todays bumps. I was at first intimidated by the bump pattern since they varied - mostly skied off on the down hill sides and soft on the up hill sides. It really felt like a lot of work! Nonetheless, I got the bump jitters out of my system and decided to take one more run before eating. The second run seemed so much easier and I was able to pick lines that felt better and I felt that I had more control.

After the two runs it was time for a burger and Switchback. For some reason ski area burgers just taste good - they cooked it perfect. I was talking to a few poeple and they said that Friday and Saturday were much better - made me wish I came Saturday! In any case, I also overheard a conversation that skiing far to the skiers right on the headwall then moving the the skiers left at the trail crossing was a good line - so that became my next run!

I scoped out the trail on the lift ride up to see what they were talking about and I was able to ski that run with very little stopping. It was exactly like they talked about! By the time I got to the bottom it started raining and I was not sure if I should go back up. As a result, I opted for another Switchback to wait it out a little. That was a good call since the clouds were getting darker by the minute and it satrted to come down more!

I have to say, Spring has brought me back to the bumps from Ragged to Jay Peak to Sugarbush to Mt Snow and others) and today really helped to get the feel for them again! Thanks Killington for a cool day! One last note, I was surprised that there were not more people!

We have had a great ski season and I look forward to that ominous June 1st - we will be there! However, it will be a close one since more rain is in the forecast and a few hotter days ahead between now and then.

Sorry - The light was kind of flat (cloudy) so it is hard to really see the bumps!

*Hincapie Sportswear Kinetic Long Sleeve Jersey*

Image: http://www.backcountry.com/images/items/medium/HIN/HIN0324/BK.jpg
As its namesake...

Hincapie Sportswear Kinetic Long Sleeve Jersey

As its namesake implies, the Hincapie Sportswear Kinetic Long Sleeve Jersey has been designed for motion. Proprietary, warming fabrics? Check. A cycling-specific, anatomic fit? Double check. Take it from the man who raced in 17 Tours, this design works.
To combine comfort with warmth, Hincapie made the Kinetic jersey from its QuadroHot fabric. This material features a soft, fleecy inner lining that utilizes hollow-core fibers in order to accelerate moisture transfer and evaporation. Additionally, this brushed inner loft is highly warming and soft-to-the-touch. And not only does QuadroHot keep you warm and dry, but its breathable design also ensures that you won't overheat during hard exertions in the saddle.
The Kinetic jersey has a malleable construction that conforms to the contours of your body. And to minimize any shifting during movement, the Kinetic has an exclusive Hincapie Gel-Gripper along the hem. The Gel-Gripper itself is flexible. However, the anti-slip elastic creates a secure attachment for a perfect fit. For ventilation, Hincapie supplied a full-length, two-way zipper along the front of the jersey.

Reynolds Sixty Six Wheelset - Tubular

When we look at deep-dish rims like the Reynolds Sixty Six Carbon Tubular Wheelset, we lick our chops like the big, bad wolf, a certain Mephistophelian twinkle in our eye. We think about racing on the flats and taking advantage of the seriously-reduced drag to attack early and venture out in long breakaways. Even though these wheels aren't feathery light like Reynolds' Forty Six and Thirty Two wheelsets, they're still lighter than most clincher wheels and much more aero. These may not be your first pick for climbing races. That said, in rolling races where you're big-ringing it all the time or just have one short hill where you drop it into the small ring, these Sixty Six wheels will probably be faster every second of the race. They're also great for time trials, as the weight matters even less and the aerodynamics even more.
Reynolds invested in two big upgrades on these wheels to reduce drag and improve braking. The drag is reduced thanks to the Swirl Lip Generator, and the braking is better because of the CTg brake track.
The Swirl Lip Generators are two tiny lips on either side of the narrow edge of the rim. If you didn't know better, you might think they were parting lines that weren't sanded down after the rim came out of the mold. There's no sanding forgotten, and they're hardly an accident. The SLG creates turbulence that helps the airflow reattach faster behind, ...Reynolds' Swirl Lip Generators help the wheels go faster by reducing drag, in addition to adding control in heavy crosswinds by moving the center of pressure towards the hub... after passing over the rim. They also have the effect of decreasing sideways air force on the rim, and in so doing, make your bike easier to steer in crosswinds. This means it takes less concentration and less strength to pilot the bike, which means you can devote more concentration and more strength to going fast.
The second big change is their new CTg brake track. C is for Cryo, Tg for glass transition temperature. As you know, heat build-up is not a good thing at the brake track. For tubulars, heat build-up can lead to softening of the glue holding the tire to the rim and melting brake pads. The new CTg tracks are the result of a new resin system and a new laminate structure. In regular riding conditions, it means the brake tracks operate up to 100F cooler than the old surfaces. In other words, braking will be better, more consistent, and you'll have little to fear from braking hard on long descents.
The rest of the wheel is equally high-performance. The rims are drilled for internal spoke nipples. As the hidden aluminum nipples present less of an obstacle for the wind and the rim has smaller holes in it, it's both faster and stronger. The spokes are DT's bladed Aerolite, both front and rear. They're laced with 16 radial spokes in front and 20 cross-2 drive and radial non-drive rear. DT also makes the hubs for Reynolds. These are the 240s model -- light, strong, smooth, and durable.
All Reynolds wheel owners can buy themselves some extra peace of mind by purchasing Reynolds' two-year damage protection plan. It's called RAP, short for Reynolds Assurance Plan. The insurance means you should have little fear that a crash will ruin your wheel investment. Find out more about it on the Reynolds Cycling site.
The Reynolds Sixty Six Carbon Tubular Wheelset comes with either a Campagnolo or Shimano/SRAM compatible Freehub body and they include a full set of Reynolds' Cryo Blue brake pads in versions to match each. Reynolds recommends only these pads as they were designed with the brake tracks; use of any other brake pads is not recommended and will void the warranty. Reynolds includes their new ultra-light quick release skewers with the wheels. Also included are valve extenders and a spoke wrench.
Ride nice bikes long enough and you'll be looking for a pronunciation guide. Ciocc, Battaglin, Serotta, et al. And while we're cautiously confident in the correct sounds of these brands, we're fully certain of another, much more important one: SRAM. It's just like it's spelled. Ssssssss (say it like a snake) -Ram (like the Dodge truck). What it is most definitely not: Schram, like Tex Schramm of NFL fame. No bike name is more phoenetical: SSSSSSSSRAM.
In commemoration of the bike industry's most rampant mispronunciation, Gage + Desoto produced this fabulous t-shirt. Who (or what) is Gage + Desoto? Just like you and me, they're bike racing nerds. But unlike you and me they have the sort of design nous to be thought of as trendsetters in the hyper-self conscious design scene of Brooklyn. Let's ride their coattails and look fabulous, shall we?
This is an American Apparel Poly-Cotton Short Sleeve Crew Neck shirt. It's 50% polyester and 50% combed cotton. The combed cotton is what gives American Apparel tees their ultra-soft and worn-in feel with a superior drape. It's designed to be slim-fitting and is unisex.

When Silca first introduced its Pista floor pump, the mountain bike was just a glimmer in its father's eyes. That venerable pump became a cycling icon, still working after decades of service. However, the short fall was that it was designed before high-volume tires, and it missed the mark when you had to put 30+ psi in a downhill or 29er tire. However, Silca filled that niche with the introduction of the Super Pista Floor Pump.
Compared to the traditional Pista, the Super Pista's larger air chamber provides 20% more volume, so you can fill those girth'y rubbers with a few quick strokes. The eight inch Beechwood handle is also a vast improvement over the former's tiny plastic handles. The Super Pista is taller as well, as to make life easy on your back when you need to top off a few sets of wheels at once.
As stated above, Silca pumps are well-loved because they seem to last forever. And when something wears out after its first decade of use, you can replace it for a few dollars in order to add another decade to its lifespan. The Super Pista has a large base for greater stability, and the gauge is mounted down low, well out of harms way should the pump get knocked over. And you know it will get knocked over, but that's no big deal because the pump's housing is made of steel.
The Silca Super Pista Floor Pump is available in the color Dark Grey and features a two-part head that can be used for either Presta or Schrader valves.
