    Coastal on Friday?

    Shhh!! Don't jinx it! ;)

    A Colorado question

amf - Within 3-4 hours of Denver, you have a bunch of options: Winter Park, Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Breck, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek, Cooper, and Steamboat. Of those, most will still be running chairlifts on April 15 -- probably all but Steamboat, Cooper, and maybe Beaver Creek or...

    Whose braving the temps tomorrow

I made it to Sugarbush (free tix for Jeep owners). Cold, but fun!

    Do You Represent?

I've got a couple... They're all in the rear, driver's-side window that has the spare tire in it anyway, so I'm not obstructing my view.

    Sugarbush, 26-Jan-2007

Date(s) Skied: Friday, January 26, 2007 Resort or Ski Area: Sugarbush (Lincoln Peak side) Conditions: Very, very cold. The snow is actually in pretty good shape where they have blown it. Otherwise, it is pretty thin coverage still, even though every trail is open. Trip Report: Went with...

If you could ski just one run.. all day..

Too many choices! (and not enough cartilege....) I'll go with Gunsight or Greeley Bowl at Alta -- not the hardest, but a heckuva lot of fun. I could do that all day. Back East, hmm... I like the idea of MiddleEarth, or maybe the one of the glades at Jay (if we're just talking lift-served...

    How would you handle this?

There are a ton of tangential issues brought up throughout this thread, but to respond to the original post... It's so hard to say without having seen/heard the situation what all the particulars are, but, in general, it sounds like the snowboarder guy was being reckless in a crowded area. It...

    Loon expansion

I was speaking with a realtor in Lincoln the other day and she was quite excited about the project. It seems like it is finally being realized and there are no more hurdles to expanding the trails and a new little base area in town. I can't remember the exact timetable for everything, but I...

    Questions on Idaho, BC spots

Pano is a pretty fun hill. There is a small village area, and Invermere is about 15 minutes away. I don't think I would want to spend more than 2 or 3 days skiing there, though. But the Taynton Bowl area is pretty damn fun. I was there during a bad snow year, but had a blast in Taynton, with...

Skyrides and Chairlift Rides - Do you use them?

Every now and then I'll take a chair/gondy down after hiking to the top. I've done that at Stowe and Wildcat that I can remember. Free rides and they were a nice change of pace. (Wildcat was after a 6-week hike.)

Which AMC Huts have you been to?

I've been to all of them, having stayed at Carter Notch, Lakes (in the Dungeon once or twice, and upstairs once), and a work-for-stay at the old Galehead. They are all so different and have plusses and minuses, but if I had to summer at just one, I would choose Madison Hut. The day-hiking...

    Imaginary Pole Plant

After a day of skiing, my feet/ankles will still be initiating turns as I'm riding in the car - especially if it's a windy, downhill road leading away from the ski hill.

Hiking after the lifts stop- allowed?

It's my understanding that if the ski resort is on public land (national forest, etc.) then they really can't stop you, whereas privately owned areas could get you for trespassing (Park City, for example, does this). It wouldn't surprise me if there were some regulations around it, but I've...

What Resorts Would YOU Like to See for the AZ Challenge?

Agreed with ChileMass. We can't really expect the ski execs to give forthright answers to just any ole email query. However, over time, we can build the reputation of AZ as a group of local, loyal, intelligent, and understanding skiers. Eventually that will lead to a better relationship with...

    Agree or disagree

I've stood at many a rope and longed to ski the other side of it, believe me. But I'm in the "don't poach" camp on this one - East or West. If you buy the lift ticket/pass, you have to play by their rules. Same goes for virtually any other purchase we make. Even if the reasons seem...
