This worked for me: grind base material off an old pair of skis. Mix the fine shavings with cold temp epoxy, about 50-50. Fill the core shot. File smooth and wax. It lasts many years.

+1 for using a belt sander. It works just fine if you are careful. Use a fine grit belt lightly and keep it moving.

So the triple gets replaced because its too old to maintain. Then what about the high peaks double? That chair is ancient!
