So EpicSki has basically been bought by Vail Resorts ...

Except now they'll probably start charging for parking...

    AZ 2013 Utah Summit?

Even without Utah, you'll be getting plenty of powder days this winter...

Another "Top 20 Ski Resorts" results we can pick apart ;)

I didn't say the snow conditions in the west were 90% better than the east. I said that 90% of the days at Alta would be as good as the top 10% of the days at Stowe (snow conditions wise) I have nowhere near the number of ski days in the East or the West as you do. But I'd question a few of...

Another "Top 20 Ski Resorts" results we can pick apart ;)

That may be true if you compare the worst conditions out west to the best conditions in the East. The problem is, the best conditions in the east just don't happen enough. From my own experience, I'd estimate that ( for snow conditions) 90% of the days at Alta would be in the top 10% of the...

Another "Top 20 Ski Resorts" results we can pick apart ;)

IMO, terrain (variety, challnge) and snow (quantity, quality, preservation) should each count as 45% Everything else (# of high speed lifts, dining, amenities, terrain parks, etc) counts as 10%. Much as I love skiing in the East, if I'm honest I'd say that none of the eastern areas make the...

    rear view mirror

I use the same one, too. I like to constantly monitor the traffic situation behind me, especially when riding solo. Situations often come up that require an immediate reaction...at those times I don't want to have to take the time to turn my head to determine what my options are. If that makes...

First Backpacking Trip for Kids - Suggestions?

Baxter has a lot of great options. If you can reserve the Upper South Branch Pond lean-to, that's a beautiful spot that you can either hike to or canoe to from The South Branch Pond campground. You could even use a canoe to shuttle the gear, so the girls can hike without heavy packs, This...

Burke Mtn sold to Jay Peak

I would think so. They really want to fill all those new hotel rooms at Jay. I don't see them adding lodging at Burke for the foreseeable future. In the competition for the ski week crowd, Having a second mountain is a big plus. It wold be nice if they were a bit closer to each other, but I can...

Snowbird Update: Little Cloud Double to be Replaced, New Mountain Coaster

I found Gad 2 to be the best bet on a poor visibility day. Not only avoid the clouds/fog that sometimes engulf the peak, but also the terrain has plenty of trees and other features compared to the more open stuff off Little Cloud and Mineral Basin. It's also great on days it may be...

    AZ 2013 Utah Summit?

Alta closed this year with 392" total snowfall. That qualifies as a terrible year for them, as they've averaged well over 600" for the last 7 or 8 seasons. Their "terrible" season would be an above average season for the vast majority of ski areas in the Rockies, the East, or the Alps.

    AZ 2013 Utah Summit?

I live in SE MA, just a couple of miles from the RI border.I think SLC to JH is comparable to me driving to Saddleback or Sugarloaf; both of which I've done as day trips.

    AZ 2013 Utah Summit?

Can't go wrong with LCC. Might not be a bad idea to try to get a group rate at one of the hotels around the Mid Valley area. I've stayed at the Crystal Inn in Murray and it was a decent place. Reasonably priced and convenient to LCC and BCC. If everyone was staying at the same place, I'd...

Snowmonster and Trailboss' Utah Powder Adventure - 'Bird/Alta/DV - 3/17-21/2012

Somatotropic hormone, a growth hormone secreted by the pituitary gland, that at one time was thought to stimulate erections. We now know that skiing deep powder is much more effective in that regard. The alternate answer is "Steeper Than Hell."
