The attempts to open in October since Covid have been made. The weather didn't support it. In the 80s, I remember skiing on natural snow at Killington well into May. IMO and according to Mike S., Killington made more snow on SS this season than ever before. No question that they have cheaped...

    Skiing Passover (Mon / Tues)

While Killington will just run the Superstar chair, most everything in that pod is open. No green circle stuff, but lots of Blue Squares and probably the top half of Needle's Eye and Panic Button.

Plattsburgh, NY Man Hits 126 Non-Consecutive Days of Skiing in 2023-2024

FWIW: From November 30 to April 8, I did 131 consecutive days. Some count a day of skiing as a couple of runs. I'd be more interested in "average vertical per day" for the 126 days rather than the number of days.

Recently, Killington has closed after the first Sunday (or Memorial Day) "that some walking was required". That meant that we rode the lift with skis off. We walked down the headwall. And after a pleasant run most of the way, we walked the last 100 yards at the bottom of Preston's Pitch. Last...

They've never objected to that. Few go beyond its intersection with Cascade, which can be delightful "cream cheese" snow after Superstar is skied out.

Needles is fully duplicated by the Skyeship, so even if it breaks, there is no loss in accessible terrain. Given the investment in the Summit Lodge at Killington, I would think that the absence of a 2nd way to reach the summit if something happened to K1, would be a bigger problem.

You might want to take a look at Superstar's snowmaking improvements. I'll be skiing lift serviced at Killington in June. Where in the east will you be skiing lift-serviced in June?

I mostly agree with you, but I think both emphasized snowmaking. What happened was a business decision where SR prioritized lifts while K prioritized lodges. Both appear to be successful in attracting their market share. Killington's appeal to the NYC/NJ market, as well as their proximity to...

I don't think that average Killington non-regulars are aware of the magnitude of deferred maintenance that Killington was facing when POWDR acquired it during the demise of ASC. The amount of work and investment made in Killington from 2007-to date is impressive. Once could argue about the...

The photo of Royal Flush above shows how quickly new March/April snow lasts. Royal Flush was still well-covered on Monday, April 8. Most of the glades were open on Monday. It would not have been obvious how bare they were just a short 5-days earlier.

    Your 2023-24 Ski Season Thread

I always kept track of number of days, but I never kept track of vertical until I started using an app that does it for me. It was a happy coincidence that Peak Skis was giving away skis for being able to show 3M+ vert. last season (and most seasons since retiring)! I could do 4M, but I really...

    Your 2023-24 Ski Season Thread

I see that Peak Ski Company has their vertical challenge again this season. However, they raised the ante from 3M vertical to 4M vertical. Between the SNOWW and WeSki apps, they gave away at most, 4 pairs of ski (if all 4 knew about it and sent in their data for 3M+ last year). I think only...

Anyone planning on skiing during the eclipse?

I got to experience a total eclipse at Mount Ascutney on March 7, 1970. I had my photographic film to enable me to watch it without damaging my eyes. It was interesting to hear the birds sing as though it was dusk and it grew darker. I remember sitting on the snow watching, mesmerized by the...
