Okemo vs. Loon - pros and cons?

I wasn't worked up before, just rolling my eyes a bit and giving a gentle ribbing where it was deserved. But NOW I am going to get worked up... With endorsements like that, it won't be long before any thread mentioning a particular mountain has an industry insider extolling the virtues of why...

Okemo vs. Loon - pros and cons?

Damn. Nice sales pitch, Okemo.

    Gunstock vs Ragged vs Pats

I'm sure the Switzerland argument has really helped the OP decide which is the best option for him. Nothing wrong with pointing out the pluses and minuses of a given area. Ragged is weak on snowmaking compared to other mid-sized central and southern NH areas. Pretty much a cut and dry...

Okemo vs. Loon - pros and cons?

NH taxes 9% meals tax so that point is moot.

    Explosions at Boston Marathon

Interesting observation cten. What surprised me from the start is the timing. Why not set it off when the big names were coming through? Why wait until after 4 hours? Maximum impact and exposure would have been when the cameras were on the finish line. No cameras are on the finish line at 4...

    Jay Peak April 13-14

Maybe Jay is taking a page from the Burke play book and treating it like Fight Club.

    Jay Peak April 13-14

Oh man, that would be the ultimate cart horse expansion failure... having to reinstall a lift slated for removal because the new lift wasn't a done deal yet because you can't not do it because the hotel is a done deal. That would be crazy.

    Smuggs Sunday 03/14/2013

I'm thinking about Stowe for this coming weekend. I have a voucher and they are a strong candidate since they are closing this weekend IIRC. But if conditions are fab, I might go for a hike/climb instead. We'll see how things look later this week.

    Gunstock vs Ragged vs Pats

700 ft vs 1000 ft. Skis bigger, IMO.

Okemo vs. Loon - pros and cons?

I couldn't disagree more that Okemo skis bigger and has more terrain variety than Loon. Skiable acreage... not sure with South Peak, haven't skied there since that was added to Loon. I am not saying these two things are reasons you should go to Loon. Solid intermediates might like Okemo better...

    Explosions at Boston Marathon

No. This is not logical thinking. Think of all the white non-muslims that have committed acts of domestic terror. Oklahoma City, Unabomber, Anthrax, school shootings, etc. I hope you are not involved with law enforcement with that attitude. By defaulting to a certain religion, you've already...

    Jay Peak April 13-14

Makes no sense at all. Everything we know at this point indicates that the six pack is a done deal. The Bonnie has already had its drive removed based on pictures I saw on FB today. The only thing I could imagine happening is the drive being moved further uphill to make room for the hotel and...

    Sugarbush 4/14

I've skied Steins late season three times now. Never seems to have good bumps. I'd rank it very low on my list of favorite spring bump runs. Maybe I just caught it bad three different years. Not just conditions either, I am talking lines. I can see quality lines even if the snow sucks. Seems...

    Explosions at Boston Marathon

Best to assume everything said in the next 24 hours is simply rumor. Until official word is given. And even then, that must be taken as very tentative. Goodness knows how many times even the best media sources get their first reports wrong on major events. Everyone should be questioning...

    Gunstock vs Ragged vs Pats

I think you have answered your own questions here. :) Gunstock has a better drive than Ragged. And if night skiing is important, they have that as well. Your other night skiing options are Pats and Crotched. Crotched is superior to Pats for night skiing for sure. Pats is an okay place. I...
