    Tenney Mountain

Agree. Only suggested b/c Day announced he's retiring, so would technically fit the profile. Might not want to jump right back in immediately though.

    Tenney Mountain

Wonder if this is the sort of thing that someone like Tom Day, who likely has had enough of public oversight at Gunstock but remains a damn experienced local operator, would be willing to take on for a few years.

    Tenney Mountain

Agree this was a huge mistake for Saddleback, but I think this is a slightly different situation for Tenney. For one thing, Saddleback had aspirations to be a real New England destination resort in line with its size/snowfall. To tempt people to drive past SR/SL and attract the destination...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

100%. When I was in Zermatt it felt like I was skiing 20 yrs in the future. Among the 15 or so lifts I rode there, there were just 3 chairs, all high-speed and built within the last 4-6 years. The rest were a mix of modern gondolas, trams and S3s that absolutely blew my mind. The amount of...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

Used it last month in Zermatt. Was way smoother and more reliable than skiing at an Alterra owned resort like Mammoth. Absolutely seamless integration with IKON using more advanced tech than I’ve seen in the States.

Yeah - this saves you 5 mins vs staying in the valley on 100B to 100. Road is in fine shape - really only one dangerous turn on that road headed North, and it's only an issue in snow/ice.

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

I think it was the combination of risk mitigation and obviously top line growth that convinced the investors to apply a higher multiple (on a bigger base). Don't think I was trying to claim (with respect to valuation specifically) that the growth was all attributable to one source or another.

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

This is obviously non-Alterra, but I'll weigh in. I certainly didn't have a problem with taking some of the newer, low-angle terrain private. Not a loss to anyone who would frequent this message board tbh. Ultimately, the uncrowded PowMow model is exactly why they've gone through a succession...

I think we are talking past each other here - you have mischaracterized my thesis. I'm pushing back solely on the confident declarations (from others) that current crowding is all/mostly about EPKON As already mentioned, EPKON is surely a major factor here. Possibly even the biggest. Not...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

I think we are in violent agreement on 90% of this issue, but I'm not tracking here. The higher valuations achieved in this re-financing were precisely BECAUSE of the re-risked P&L. The shift to IKON took place during the lifetime of the original vehicle, so it's natural that the people who...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

That's not very compelling. I'm sure that Alterra has grabbed its fair share of growth in skier visits that the market as a whole has experienced in recent years, but they've also de-risked the P&L in that time by moving to a subscription model that is largely weather agnostic. Independent ski...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

So you think you have enough anecdotes to conclude that EPIC and IKON are the only cause of increased crowding? If so, please explain how you arrived at this conclusion and were able to adjust/control for the impact of macro trends such as the post-COVID boom in skiing generally and the...

I'd extend it another 50-100' up beyond the corner to where it hits the sun on that last stretch, but yes this would easily add a couple weeks to the CR season each year if they did this.
