Closing Dates for New England Mountains - 2015

There is an old saying in the ski resort biz that the skiers/riders leave before the snow does. If the snow is gone in the major markets like boston and NY/NJ in April and kids sports have begun and boating, biking and golf has started people will stop coming no matter how much snow the resorts...

    Andy Zee: Tribute Thread

So sad, so very sad...prayers to Andy and Violetta's families. Saw them last spring when they stopped in to say hi, think they were up at Smuggs heading back to kmart. Such a thrill when Andy got to ski Tucks, had great days skiing at the Bush and Smuggs over the years. You'll be missed.

    Creative trail use fail

While S&S is much bigger air than Corbets it has a safer landing zone. if you jump into Corbets and your still upright the danger actually begins. Most newbies land sideways so they are then headed for a solid rock wall. Some sit down at that point and slide down the rest of the couloir into a...

    Sugarbush

Another reason Steins works well is it mostly faces north as does Spring Fling. The issue with Spring Fling is getting to it via Snowball which faces east. This time of year if there is snow on Snowball it it quickly becomes heavy mash potatoes, not a pleasant experience for most.

Jay Peak done for the season

Ownership finally read the memo from the Accounting Dept. BTW, the Bush is technically closed, reopening for the weekend. Should be a party....

    Arcadia National Park - Maine

Acadia is one of the most visited NPs in the country while being one of the smallest so hitting it up during the prime summer season gets pretty busy. Bar Harbor is a typical tourist trap but getting ice cream at Ben & Bill's is worth a visit. Incredible unique flavors. Check your maps as many...

    FREE skiing @ Sugarbush! Maybe.

It was in the mid 60's and cloudy yesterday in the valley so I imagine it was in the 50's on the mountain so no need to move the resort to NYC.

    FREE skiing @ Sugarbush! Maybe.

I work with people who commute it everyday and they advised it's in good shape. There are a few ruts so you might have to drive slow thru those spots but it's short so you should be fine.

2013 King of Spring - Who will it be?

In addition to the considerations of business levels vs marketing value several resorts are now selling spring passes($199 @ the Bush, for example) which puts added pressure to be open as long as possible.

    Sugarbush Lift Evac today 4-7-13

132 people evaced in 2 hours, that's about 1 minute per person, pretty good IMHO. Those who were not properly dressed it was abit uncomfortable. It was not warm. It was windy, temp around 30F. Each will be getting a voucher for a future free ski day. 30 years ago I was heading home after work...

    Advice for Sugarbush Condo Rental?

Snow Creek is the only real slopeside complex so you do pay more due to it's premium location. Since all Snow Creeks are 2br/2bath some have lofts, comparable units are Paradise and Glades. They are in Sugarbush Village so are close to Pine Tree Pub and Mother Stuffers and the Sugarbush Health...

    Lodging in Rutland?

My ex is a Rutland native so we have stayed in pretty much in every flea bag motel. One thing interesting most of the motels are now owned by families from India. Great business people but not too good on customer service. We liked staying at the Happy Bear on the kmart access road. Totally old...

    March Snowmaking

The Bush puts extra snow during the winter on Steins as that is planned as the last trail open. I doubt they will be doing anymore snowmaking but you never know. As you mentioned mother nature is acting somewhat normally, so far. Got a few more inches last night, other possibilities in the near...
