your friend was not trolling you. there‘s good stuff skiers left off middle earth but the creek needs a substantial snow pack

The trees up there are very thick so you could be in for some serious bushwacking if you go the wrong way. There is a cliff with some challenging skiing thereabouts. Its an adventure for sure.

no, it's not. I mean money is always an issue, but you know full well that there are other issues involved with increasing snowmaking capacity.

agreed. I stopped riding my xc bike on them because it would cause more damage than the cost of renting a DH bike.

there are a couple of trails on the map from castlerock connection to sleeper that will be interesting for skiing too. the proposal specifically refers to adapting the chairs on gatehouse to carry bikes.

I have no idea. imagine a crane is a lot cheaper than a helicopter.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

I thought they only needed helicopters for towers that are inaccessible by crane.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

do they even use helicopters to remove the old towers?

So with all the talk about hg and cr being closed along with mt Ellen, I decided not to go to sb and went to mt snow instead. Well, all lifts were shut to start the day other than the terrain park. they got 2 lifts going around 11 but left most of the trails closed despite being eminently skiable.

I blew them off last weekend but I'm stuck at home until the weekend after the eclipse.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Isn't this assuming that they're going to be actively working on a weekend? I doubt that's true. Think its more likely that they assumed in planning this that castlerock would be cooked for the season by this time. That would be more than a reasonable assumption but appears it may not to be...

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

This sucks. Can someone please explain why they have to close castlerock even if the only access is from North lynx via the cr connection? Also, the mountain and the valley are sold out for the eclipse weekend. they should run the gmx/summit even nif they can't staff the lodge/food.

wow this is too long for my limited attention span, but let me throw out my 2 cents. background, I skied SB almost exclusively for over a decade around 50 days a year until the last few seasons when circumstances reduced my mrv visits and brought me to various mountains out west where my son...

yesterday was an all time great ski day in my book. warm sun and and fresh cold snow. Would have gotten more runs if nrx was running and while the lines looked horrific, I never waited more than 10 minutes. Best run on black diamond of my life. Bravo was great. couple of runs through the...

I stayed away from castle rock bc I didn’t want to wait. Skiing was great everywhere. World class powder day. Unusual that there was little wind. I got to the mtn at 7:30 and when I got back to the car there was easily a foot plus on it.
