    Ski Resort Response to COVID-19

For those wondering about this the answer is because of contact tracing. The exemption on VT counties that are above the state threshold comes down to it being far more complicated to perform effective contact tracing on those residing out of state than those who remain in state. The Dept of...

    Superpasses: more crowds?

I get this point, but it doesn't mean anyone is selling for a loss. Worst (best?) case scenario is you decide to not use the 2nd home anymore and rent it out, in which case all of these IKON people need places to stay so you should have no issue with short term rentals. I know several people...

    Mad River Glen

That part of the LT just loops right back onto Antelope right as it turns left & goes downhill. They're just skiing a cat track for a few hundred yards

It's so bad you have to pay people to move to Vermont

This is really well put & why I also live, work, and am raising children here. I often find myself jealous of my own kids that they get to grow up here. So much fun stuff for kids and while I'm an avid skier and it's a huge part of why I moved to VT in the first place (I would've loved to go...

It's so bad you have to pay people to move to Vermont

Yeah it would. Williston & South Burlington have exploded with housing over the last few years. Lots of development going on, and in Williston much of that is coming in the form of Townhouses. So these areas are packing people into a small area but doing nothing about the infrastructure (i.e...

    Superpasses: more crowds?

Here's my experience at Stowe- Stowe has always been very busy on holidays/weekend powder days. Like everywhere else it's ski on-off M-F. What has been noticeable to me since Epic is early and late season weekend crowds. Primarily late season, but it applies to early season (defining this as...

I get holding your thumb on the scale a bit, but. . .

This isn't true at all. There are plenty of times when Mansfield stake has had 12" & there's rain to a dusting in town of Stowe. It's happened a few times this season alone. It tends to happen more in Fall/Spring with those marginal temps than in the dead of winter.

Epic Pass just got more Epic

I ski Stowe regularly. Don't find crowds to be any worse than before the Vail purchase. It does seem that it's a bit more crowded on weekends later into the season, but this is completely anecdotal. March/April weekends seem busier than before the purchase. Holiday weekends are a shit-show...

Hey Vail, Please Don't Buy Smugglers Notch Resort (or, Houston, We Have A Stalker)

The speculation is obvious because the owner of Smuggs is 80yrs old and it's adjacent to Stowe. I wouldn't be totally surprised if a Vail acquisition happened. I also wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen. An inter-connect (via lift) is probably a long way off if it could even happen at...

Vail Purchases Okemo, Sunapee, Crested Butte, and Stevens Pass

I think one of the reasons they’re not in on the European market is because the ownership structure there is so different. In Austria & Switzerland the majority ofthe on-mountain amenities (as well as the adjacent land) is privately owned, many of them owned by the same families for many, many...

Vail Purchases Okemo, Sunapee, Crested Butte, and Stevens Pass

Didn't notice any price difference in Stowe's food prices this past season compared to the prior. If there was an increase at all it was minimal & would be normal without the ownership change. Stowe has historically been pricier with food but never found it to be that much more than...

Vail Purchases Okemo, Sunapee, Crested Butte, and Stevens Pass

Not quite fake news because skiing in Europe depends on alot of things. Where in Europe? There are lots of places there. Switzerland= expensive. France, ditto. Dolomites- can be, but there are some good cheap options. Austria- lots of cheap options (this is where I’m most familiar with)...

    Sunapee, Okemo join epic pass

i'm not one to defend Vail, but the window rates at Stowe (and most in the NE) were steadily increasing as it was. Vail didn't mess much with that, at least this year, so that can't be laid on them as far as NE window rates are concerned. I do agree that current window rates are bad for the...

    Vail to buy Stowe?

That seems to contradict what's on the Stowe FAQ section of snow.com... If I buy an Epic Pass now, and then decide to purchase a Stowe-only product once they are announced, can I exchange my pass? No. All Epic Passes are non-refundable and non-transferrable...

    Vail to buy Stowe?

Interesting read. The only thing I disagree wholeheartedly with is "Because once you’ve ridden modern high speed lifts, slow ones are anathema." I'd rather wait in a lift line than ski trails with hoards of people. It's sometimes just outright dangerous. I hate the trend of high speed+high...
