    The NEW Magic Mountain

Really lovely snow. Light enough and a pleasure. My VT place is much lower and fluffy snow is still falling. Maybe a fill in?

    The NEW Magic Mountain

The Black lift is a little more exposed up top. I was on alone Friday and I thought it was going to take off. Just a dumb worry. There is always the bulletproof Red.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

It's a whole new deal for Magic to figure out how to optimize the business model with the Black lift built. No lift lines on a powder day is very attractive given their terrain. That was proven last Sunday. The Black lift siphoned off a lot of money and attention for many years. Snowmaking needs...

    The NEW Magic Mountain

Its 6+ inches of new snow to open. I think staffing could be an issue though, Rather nice today and it will stay that way over the weekend.

7" for the second time around on the snow stake. That's 24" and still snowing.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

Got there at 2PM today and Red was running fine. It was actually a plus as Trick was the way down. Really empty. The groomers are now a really nice base and the skiing was fast and pleasant. Talisman will be fun this weekend as I suppose the bumps are all there and the fresh is coming.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

Rather good skiing today. I just exhausted myself on Talisman. Interesting cold weather next week. Some touch up snow making could really make for a decent weekend. I have no idea if it is worth the expense.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

Pack down all the snowmaking trails tomorrow and let them freeze overnight was my thought. Including Wizard and Talisman.

    The Dreaded "Closing" Thread: 2023-2024

It certainly gets another week at Magic.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

The snow report said it all today. Actually what was open skied well because it never got mushy. I think I have talked myself into going tomorrow. It will get firm enough. Two things. If it looks like boilerplate, it is. Also, when you traverse over from Showoff, beware the wet spots or you are...

We need that to ski anything in two weeks.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

They improved the profile at loading of the new lift so it is a bit downhill instead of up. Only snowmaking trials survived. With no new snow and the upcoming temperatures it looks grim.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

It really can't change as to a post mortem story. Clearly Stephens Engineering perhaps got some things wrong. Then you point the finger at possible Pfister issues, tower alignment etc. Was everything to print? Were Magic's lift mechanics involved? That becomes a circular firing squad. And who do...

    The NEW Magic Mountain

You need to figure in the chair pitch. It is larger on Black than Red. So It loads at close to the same time as Red. But people better have their act together.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

It's a nice ride. Did it twice today. As I thought a bit faster than Red. Very smooth, Runs nice like Red.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

I saw Geoff and what I presume is the lift mechanic load and ride about 2:30 today. I met Geoff back up top later and he was grinning ear to ear (and wearing Mardi Gras beads) when I asked him if that was what I saw. Said it was a real smooth ride. He described a few hours Th and F and then run...

    The NEW Magic Mountain

I saw them about the same speed a week or so ago. The higher speed is likely for break in and an unofficial stress test. As to Green, I enjoyed dodging icy patches and snow guns last Sunday. For me right now, it's just laps.

    The NEW Magic Mountain

It ran until at least 6PM. This is a good point about loading. The damn lift runs counter-clockwise like the old Black. And you need to load 4. Singles line for fill ins? PLEASE. I will be there tomorrow. I may be further testing my new knee on Talisman as the top of Trick went well and I like...

Which new 2023 chairlift will be first to open ?

Looks like Wednesday for Magic. They were cycling it way into the dark today with everything complete. The irony is they don't need it Wednesday but I suspect they will run it.
