Thanks, we are heading up the 12-15th. We should be prepared for all scenarios/weather events, but will certainly exercise caution hiking the mountain...

looking at Camel's Hump...and also NH

Thank you both for your thoughts, suggestions. Right now it's a toss up between taking the Monroe trail to the Dean Trail to the Long Trail, over the Summit and then back down the Monroe OR hiking Mt. Mansfield. I've done most of my hiking in the White Mtns, doing 4,000 ft'rs. I'm used to...

looking at Camel's Hump...and also NH

I ended up booking 3 nights at Little River State park in Waterbury, Vt with the main goal of hiking Camel's Hump one day. Anyone have suggestions for trails leading to the summit? Would like to make it a day hike. Any suggestions for other cool places to check out in the area? We'd be open...

looking at Camel's Hump...and also NH

Hi all, My girlfriend and I are trying to plan a day summit hike for the second week of Sept and so far we have looked at Camel's Hump. Looks pretty wild and we don't spend as much time in VT as other places, so it might be nice to switch it up. I would categorize our combined hiking abilities...

A friend suggested Moosilauke and the pics I googled looked beautiful and the mountain definitely looks doable for my GF...

    Knife's Edge,Katahdin

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful and insightful responses. Much appreciated... As far as training I just mean strengthening my ankles and especially my quads so I'm not shaky on the descent. I actually hiked Mt. Liberty(I think) in NH not too long after I had reconstructive surgery on...

    Knife's Edge,Katahdin

Dave, thank you for posting pics of the drop. I wanted to get a sense of what the worst of it was and those are some great shots. I'm really going to train hard for this hike during the next 6 months. I don't want to roll an ankle or blow out a knee(I've torn my right ACL and MCL in the past)...

    Knife's Edge,Katahdin

Thanks for the quick response. Amazing pics. My buddy has hiked Katahdin several times, but has never done KE. He always camps at Moosehead so I think that's where I'll be staying. But thanks for your suggestions. Anyone else?

    Knife's Edge,Katahdin

I am planning on hiking this trail in mid-July. Any feedback, experiences, essentials, etc. regarding this hike would be greatly appreciated. What conditions are likely at that time of year. I realize things can change in an instant. I'm just trying to prepare for any obstacles. Looks crazy...
