    Ski Patch Collections

When I was in second grade my aunt living in Germany sent us ski patches from Garmisch and Zermatt. I still have them and a few more on my denim jacket, which is both the dorkiest and maybe coolest piece of clothing I own.

What is the Stowe hotel with the awesome, free breakfast included with the room?

Um...should have noted I'm speaking of town & country. Sent from my iPhone using AlpineZone

What is the Stowe hotel with the awesome, free breakfast included with the room?

Get on their email list - they often send out good special rates and if I remember correctly those almost always include the breakfast. Right on the shuttle route too. Typically if we aren't renting a house for the trip, that's where we stay. Rooms facing mountain road are better than the ones...

Berkshire East cancels $15 night because of "rif raff"...

Was there today and it was absolutely fantastic. One of those magical ski days when every single thing is just right. Sent from my iPhone using AlpineZone

    Skier sues over wet snow

Nah it was last year. I have introduced someone else's acl to skiing this year! Just slow and cautious. But thank you! Sent from my iPhone using AlpineZone

    Skier sues over wet snow

I think I love this thread more than any other! I feel rather vindicated about a spectacular season ending head over heels crash on whales with blowing snow. I really had no idea the conditions might have played a much larger part in it versus my skill level and being aggressive. Doesn't change...

Have any of you guys NEVER skied outside of the Northeast?

Never skied outside New England. Happy to do so if the opportunity presents, but I like having all my own gear handy and don't like the idea of wasting two ski days on planes. Deadhead has it right in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using AlpineZone

One ACL surgery... One missed season... One great day!

That is absolutely fantastic! Day 3 of my ski season last year ended in the sled of shame and the unhappy triad for the right knee. Cried heaving sobs not from pain but because I knew the season was toast. Terribly scared, anxious, excited to get back at it. Thinking a modest tequila shot will...

    Injury Roster 2013/2014 Ski Season

Wow, Steamboat - I'd certainly like to get away with no surgery. So glad you've found something that lets you get back at it! I'll put the Bledsoe on the research list. It certainly looks stable. I guess the best bet is to hear whatever the doc has to say and suggest. Had a small meniscus tear...

    Injury Roster 2013/2014 Ski Season

Puck it - i'd love to hear how that new brace works out. I'll be in the market for whatever brace works best for lateral stability, no matter the price, at some point. I hope.

    Dartmouth Skiway 12/29/13

Thanks for this detail. Haven't heard a thing about this one before a few days ago, but got it on the list now. Sounds very intriguing. By the way, saw the Passion for Snow documentary on Dartmouth's contributions to the sport last week. It's a great hour of TV - highly recommended!

    Snowmaking during business hours

I know they're running guns during the day to beef up the amount of open terrain and improve the conditions, but I'd be a litle peeved if I got blasted on the chair. Haven't had that happen, except with the inevitable wind gust once in a while. I've had a great time navigating the whales, too...

    What's the damage?

We're going to put down the money tomorrow and give Stowe a shot, since we've been here since Sat. night. But it is forecasted to be cold as frick the next two days. And when all this slush and the many deep puddles outside my door turn to ice in the next few hours, it's going to be pretty...

Moved from Florida to Jersey looking for advice and tips.

It's kind of dorky, but just don't give up. I think you may be at the point in the learning curve where it's easy to get frustrated and some days you'll think you should really have skiied better than you did and it can get frustrating. Just keep focused on the one spectacular run you are bound...

Dope-slap things I have done when skiing

Was too warm on a late afternoon in April at Loon and decided to wear my favorite baseball cap instead of my beanie. (My hair is un-viewable after wearing a helmet or beanie, so I had to do something!) The reason you never see baseball caps on the slopes became readily apparent in short order...

    Favorite Early Season Trail?

    Dealing With A Suicide

I am very, very sorry for your loss and for the onslaught of emotions you must feel right now. Not to be hokey, but there's a concept in practicing mindfulness that encourages you not to harshly judge your own emotions, just let 'em flow and be aware of them, but don't be too hard on yourself...

    Columbia's Omni Heat

Have had a jacket for a couple of years now and never get cold in it. Wear it with just a thin thermal and a midlayer. It's extremely light and so much easier to maneuver in. I prefer it to my Rossi and daughter's Obermeyer (both of which were twice the price.) I just found some of the tights at...
