Sunday River Opening day October 19, 2018

Here's a quick report from today. I met a friend just after open for a few hours today for opening day at SR. Beautiful bluebird day with small crowds, and decent snow. Skiing was on a groomed T2, and ungroomed Upper Punch. Punch looked sketchy from the lift so we did our first half dozen or...

    Mad River Glen new website

MRG has a new website, and a new trail map. A bit more terrain, all well known stuff, has made the map. Up to 52 official trails now. This will take some time for me to get used to. Meanwhile, they are closed. https://www.madriverglen.com/trail-maps/

    Snowmaking in March

So what resorts will go for renewed snow making when the temps drop next week? Okemo has announced that they will. I would think K might, but they have shut down at the end of Feb in recent years. Sunday River stopped a while back, but are always a candidate to pick it up again. Who else?

Bolton Valley 1/28 Conditions: Powder, Packed Powder, Firm underneath in high traffic areas I decided to head to Bolton solo yesterday, based on snowfall totals and the fact that all of the main lifts were on wind hold for at least most of Friday. There was around 6 or 7 inches of fresh...

    Loon Mountain 12/23/16

Conditions: variable with powder, pp, and hardpack I went out this morning for what I thought would be a punch the clock groomer day, but it turned out much better. Arrived at S. Peak just before 9 to rock star, ski to car parking. Quick warm up run on Twitcher, nothing special but it had a...

There is still SNOW in New England

According to Sunday River's facebook, they still have snow in the park to be used as an obstacle for Saturday's Tough Mudder Challenge. Pretty impressive for late July in this season. Maybe I'll bring my skis up this weekend and see if there are any leftovers? https://www.facebook.com/sundayriver

    Loon Mountain 12/15/15

I got out for a few hours today at Loon, figuring any skiing is better than no skiing. After a sunny drive up 93 I arrived at 10:30 to sprinkles in the lot. There were about 40 cars, with mostly local plates, but some from CT, NY, NJ, Quebec and even one from Alaska! The rain only lasted a...

Prospect Hill (Nelsap) Waltham MA 3/19/2015

Conditions wet snow/corn in the sun and styrofoam like snow in the shade I had to make a quick trip south to visit family, and decided to stop in at Prospect Hill on my way back. This hill has been on my hit list for a long time as I have not skied it since the mid 80's or so. Limited gear in...

    Loon Mountain 1/1 and 1/2/15

Conditions machine made, loose granular and some boilerplate I arrived at South Peak at Loon at 9:15 on New Years Day to the sight of many tower guns running. Everything on S Peak was refreshed and skied quite well. Big whales and bumps on the blacks, and guns still running on the blues on...

Hi All, I am looking for a decent sized patch to ski this Sunday, June 1st to make it 9 straight months of skiing (so far). Based in S. NH. Tux is an obvious choice, as is lower SS at Kmart. Is there anything else in the area worth considering? I would rather save Tux for July as that will...

    killingto 5/26/13

Made it to Killington by 9 am for what turned out to be a great late season day. Had to park in the main K1 parking lot as the usual road spots were blocked off for the stage race. Booted up and on the chair by 915 or so. First run of the day I chose to hike the 50 or so feet of the headwall...
