    VAIL SUCKS

That Zipline and mountain coaster were I'll conceived and cost a significant % of what a high speed quad would have cost when they went in. I think the zip cost like $2.3 million alone if memory serves. The mountain coaster ruined a cult favorite old school trail called Hunky Dory which had a...

    Jay Peak bombshell

I had the same reaction. Being unafraid to offend is a great skill to have as an interviewer, but it was really painful to listen to him just ask the same generic question over and over again. Johnson should have been prepared to say something like "at x (or y, z, etc.) moment, you should have...

    Summer 2024 improvements

That's how I read it, but nether would surprise me. Our read would certainly be more interesting. Good for them either way. I don't think I've ever been down Hot Shot, as every time I've been has been as a racer or spectator in mid March when it seemed to always be about 50 degrees out.

    Summer 2024 improvements

I really wish they'd go with a gondi. Take ~half of the chairs off the Cannonball quad and switch the midweek operating plan to gondi/Peabody instead of Cannonball/Zoomer/Peabody. Also, it looks like the Ramrod redesign will more or less reclaim the old double lines per the 1985 trail map below...

    Wildcat and Attitash

It's probably been more recent than this, but I just missed using before Super G moved to Illusion on Bear Peak at Attitash. Last race I know happened was Feb 2002. Quite possible another one or two happened since then. I know college GS was being raced at Wildcat circa 2010, but I don't know if...

Jay Peak Thread (New owners, New Future)

I don't think I've seen this yet here, but LiftBlog has Bonnie getting replaced with a detach (TBD on # of seats) for summer of 2025. Will be interesting to see if the new group likes the existing line or the old double line where the 6 was supposed to go. https://liftblog.com/2025-new-lifts/

Sugarloaf West Mtn Expansion and HSQ officially a go

I get it now. Was thinking West mtn-Bucksaw-summit. I'm with you on the wind blown summit, but the dream very well might build excitement and sell. Not that it's going to be my problem, but it would be kind of annoying to go up to Bullwinkle's and then back down to SQ or Skyline to get to the...

Sugarloaf West Mtn Expansion and HSQ officially a go

I think he means the new lots to be cleared (and a good chunk of the existing ones) will have access directly to Bucksaw. From there, they could easily access the summit.

Sugarloaf West Mtn Expansion and HSQ officially a go

This is a good call. Had to re-familiarize myself with their portfolio, but they are an Eastern and Midwestern feeder or two away from being a mini Alterra or Vail in their own right. I suspect the $$$ they get for Snowbird in particular (and to a lesser extent, Killington) must keep them happy...

Sugarloaf West Mtn Expansion and HSQ officially a go

I think in the comments of the Six Shooter replacement article on LiftBlog, the proper lift nerds argued that it's age, CTEC construction and lower capacity design (1800 people per hour) made it impossible to upgrade to a sufficiently high capacity Super Quad replacement.

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

I'm mostly with you. It's certainly not an either/or. More inside baseball than anything, but the new investors in these vehicles underwrite to 2-3x their money over ~5 years. They needed to be convinced the mouse trap is more than just a side car to demographic trends. I can all but guarantee...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

I think we're largely on the same page. Our only potential point of misalignment is that I read the fact KSL just convinced the PE market to give them another 5ish years with Alterra as clear empirical evidence that the model is doing more than just riding the wave of better east coast transplants.

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

Yeah I was thinking it shouldn't be on the Epic Local or Eastern Epic at all - so evidently more onerous than current Whistler/PC/Vail treatment. If they felt like being somewhat generous, they could maybe introduce a premium Eastern Epic that includes Stowe. I think my back of the envelope math...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

It's a conundrum, but I want to say my brother spent less than $600 for an eastern pass that included 10 days at Stowe. I think the local had that too (both had blackouts). The problem is that leaves maybe non-blackout weekends after new years before the masses pack it in for spring sports...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

I was at Wildcat for the first time in a couple years with my brother two weeks ago from LSU Thursday. The new bridge and fresh coat of paint were the only saving grace. Lynx was actively chewed up by the cats and not skiable. Very annoying. The rest of it skied okay. It was wild taking the...

I'm surprised it hasn't gone onto a premium tier yet. Seems like a candidate to get the Whistler/PC treatment.

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

It's funny, sometimes the examples right in front of your face are the easiest to miss. That's definitely the super pass-driven shift in behavior of the affluent masses of the Northeast. If you were still sitting in an office in greater NYC several days a week, the you'd get the impression that...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

Here's what you're missing: new investors want more than a sleepy de-risked season pass printing machine. They want it to grow, and a business that isn't taking share isn't a good growth story. They need to be sold on growing a combination of skiers, rev/skier and ancillary revs from real...
