They absolutely have to groom some of it. The trails were pretty empty this afternoon, and I’m pretty sure part of the reason is that a lot of people can’t or won’t ski bumps, which was required on pretty much every trail. I think a. Lot of people just gave up and went in. I’ll be skiing...

Really good snow so far. On top of what fell and blew into the woods during the week, maybe the best morning of tree skiing I’ve ever had here. What a day!

OpenSnow has the snow level maxing out at 1500 feet and that’s after the lifts close tmrw. Hopefully that holds up and it’s all snow. They’re now also projecting 24”! Should be an incredible day!

OpenSnow shows basically the same forecast for Sunday. A mix of snow and rain. OpenSnow is also showing 3” at the summit for Sunday, which would be amazing! There’s plenty of stuff to complain about at Stratton, but this seems like it should be pretty far down the list. Stratton’s website...

    PSA: 2024-2025 Ikon Renewal

Ha! You did a great job on the mic! Thanks for putting the time in and helping make it a fun weekend for the kids and their families! My son gave his goldfish to my daughter. I can't believe it's still alive! I was ready to administer last rights a couple of times yesterday, but apparently...

    PSA: 2024-2025 Ikon Renewal

Acting obnoxiously to the general skiing public isn't excusable. I see about the same percentage of obnoxious kids / people in the race and freestyle programs as I see in the general population, but maybe I'm just not looking for it. I don't get why you'd care about how other people are...

    PSA: 2024-2025 Ikon Renewal

My son was at the Mt Snow event (podiumed both days!) and I just took a look at the results. All of the girls listed on the run order for Saturday completed their runs and had two scores recorded. There were a bunch of no shows on Sunday (presumably because of the weather / roads). No DQs...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

For sure. Park City is a great ski town! If the town, restaurants and general scene is more important than the skiing, I can definitely see why people would (and a lot of people do) choose Park City as a ski vacation destination. I should have been clearer that for me, the quality of the...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

That’s pretty much how I feel about the Park City mountains. There’s nothing wrong with them and if any one of them was my home mountain, I’d be super stoked on it, but none of them are mountains I would travel to for a ski vacation.

OpenSnow is also showing a rain / snow mix with a snow level of 4500 feet. The forecast has been jumping around a bit given how close the forecast temp is to freezing and how close the snow level is to Stratton’s summit. The forecast on Stratton’s site has now cut over to all rain for...

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

What does Alterra trying to avoid employees unionizing have to do with DEI initiatives or the way they market themselves? It’s entirely possible (and I think probable) to be invested in some liberal values while still believing that unions are an outdated relic and bad for business.

I don’t get why they felt the need to regrade this area for more beginner terrain when it’s already the most congested part of the mountain. There’s so much room towards Tamarack - surely that would have been a safer, less congested area to funnel beginners to.

It wasn’t quite that on Mlk weekend, but not too far off. The blackout on the ikon base pass makes a difference.

Can you break even on a ski condo?

It's absolutely possible to break even or turn a profit, especially with no mortgage as the OP said is the case in their situation. I bought my condo at the base of a southern VT resort a couple of years ago, and got a mortgage for 80% of the value. It's a higher end condo which means high...

    U14 Racing Team Recommendations

That seems weird it works that way for racing. My son skis freestyle and all of the mountains he competed at this year (Stratton, Snow, Killington, Willard, Sugarbush, Bristol) offered heavily discounted parent tickets for completion days - most were around $50 per day. Advertised on the event...

    Ski Resort Response to COVID-19

Vermont's metric of active cases per million of population seems to be flawed given the number of known active cases is largely driven by the volume of tests administered. For example, today's statistics have VT and NY with similar positive test rates over the past 7 days. VT has recorded a...

    Toddlers Ski Equipment - Advice

I’m sure leasing is the right choice for a lot of people, but buying new has worked out better for our family. If you have more than 1 child, it can definitely be the better way to go. When my son was 2.5, I picked up some K2 Indy skis with bindings on sale during the summer for $120 and a...
