    Burke's Glades?

I'm planning a trip to Burke and I've never been there when the glades were open. I hear they are now. Can anyone tell me how coverage is? And can anyone give me some recommendations or insight? Which ones shouldn't I miss? Which ones aren't too tight? Thanks!

VPR broadcast on Vermont Ski Industry

There was an interesting program today about the state of the Vermont ski industry on Vermont Public Radio's Vermont Edition. They spoke with the president of the Vermont Ski Association and officials from Mad River Glen and Mount Snow. You can listen to it online if you go here.

Kton -- What a difference a couple weeks make?

Work has been going like gangbusters to repair the damage done by Irene. Here's a pic of Route 4 at River Road near Killington on August 29 beside one that shows how it looks today. Killington posted it on Facebook: Amazing! Let's hear it for the highway crews!

    Try, try again.

Seems like this is a concept that's failed a number of times, but once again, someone is launching a new private ski club. We've all seen the failures -- the Yellowstone Club in Wyoming went bankrupt, as did Haystack in VT. This one is on the site of a recently failed ski club, Bear Creek...

My second book comes out tomorrow!

Yep, it's another Ski Diva Mystery, a follow up to DOUBLE BLACK, which came out almost exactly a year ago. This one is called FADE TO WHITE. It has many of the same characters as DOUBLE BLACK and takes place in the same Vermont ski town. The story focuses on a washed-up action hero who comes to...

    Lift incident at Whiteface

Not as serious as Sugarloaf, but they did put out a press release, I guess in light of the recent incident: Are these a usual thing, or are we just hearing about them now?

    What's up with Maple Valley?

I drove by the defunct Maple Valley ski area in Dummerston, VT, yesterday, and it looked like there was some work being done on the base lodge. I know it was for sale a while ago. Anyone know what's going on?

Guess whose book was picked by Oprah?

My husband's next book, KINGS OF THE EARTH, was picked by Oprah for her summer reading list! It's in the July issue of O magazine. I'm sorry if this is too braggy, but I'm so excited my head's about to explode! Book's out July 6.

    Stowe 3/16

Went up to Stowe today, and thought everyone might want to know how it fared from the recent deluge. Actually, they didn't get that much rain up there. So the answer is: pretty well. The drive to the mountain was pretty disheartening. There is NO SNOW in the greater Stowe metro area. Zero...

NY Times article on small ski areas

Looking for VT cell phone recommendations

I live in Vermont and my cell phone service STINKS! I'm using Verizon, but I think it's time for a change. Any other Vermonters here using another carrier with good -- or even fairly good -- results?
