I did a search on this site for info on this and didn't see it, so please forgive me if I'm repeating...

Last fall I read a book review on The Edge of Never, by Bill Kerig
This book is a ski adventure beyond all ski adventures
You can see the review that I read, on EpicSki Here

I'm not a big reader, more of an active girl who can't sit still long enough to finish a book, but this one got me. When I sat down to read it, I couldn't put it down!
Now there's a movie which will be out September 16th.
See the movie trailer here.

Do yourself a favor, pick up the book, join the facebook fan club, watch the movie........This is the ultimate ski adventure!

Actually, it looks like they are updating on Facebook and Twitter(mostly Twitter) with their progress, more so than their book site.

one of the best books I've ever read. it hit me on multiple levels...the skiing and comraderie we share with each other, the desire to push yourself the protective urges of a parent, lost heroes who come into the story while they were still with us...incredibly powerfull story. Every skier with an ounce of passion for the sport needs to sit down and read this one...even if you typically don't read anything longer than a text message.

You'd have to PAY ME to read a book in a book store or a library. Then again, I detest public spaces probably more than the average joe.

When I used to sell printing and promotional materials..I would chill in Borders reading magazines and what not between appointments. I actually got a job offer by Cutco knives in the magazine section and the girl at the coffee counter was into me,..and one time asked if I wanted a shot of love..actually I made that up..doh!!!

Buy the book and watch the movie and make signs come on guys do it:smash:

I've read the book and enjoyed it. Interesting read if you're a skier, not sure about the cross-over appeal to non-skiers. And as I've written here, I really enjoyed the movie Steep which is what ultimately was the product of the all the filming. The producers decided to focus on Doug Coombs as a backdrop to the history of extreme, backcountry skiing. Doug Coombs was killed shortly after they had shot alot ski and interview footage with him. Kerig started the project wanting to create a movie about extreme skiing -balance risk with reward, risk taker personality, etc - by utilizing the 15-16 year old boy (his father's name escapes me but he's was a pioneering skier killed in Chamonix) as the centerpiece of the story. The second movie - The Edge of Never - is that movie that never got made b/c of Coombs death. The trailer looks very interesting. There's a lot of back stories - Peter Jennings production company financed the movie- Jennings finds out he's got cancer during filming, a famous Chamonix ski guide is almost killed in a freak accident, etc. If the movie came to Boston, I'd try to go see it. Kerig is from the Boston (N. Shore) area but lives in Park City now.

The book is an enjoyable read. It's short, but is nicely written and you sort of feel like you are there. Really reminded me of the days when I used to rock climb in Tucson-- the kind of mainline adrenaline rush you get from having your ass hanging out over a cliff.

I'd never heard of skiing with a rope attached to you before. I guess you'd have to ski pretty slowly to avoid it pulling you off balance. That story of the guy skiing into a crevasse and lodging his head at the bottom, was pretty vivid. I bet he wished he'd been wearing rope...

I read in the book how young Kye was, but seeing the trailer, geez he's was just a child. The author seemed perhaps a little self serving at times when he'd mention his conscience bothering him, yet it never stopped him from doing anything. It kind of bothered me that the skiers in the films weren't paid employees, but instead the film company wanted to pretend they would have done that skiing anyway, and they were just there documenting it. That seems like kind of a murky moral area.

I imagine that kind of extreme skiing is just like rock climbing in terms of why people do it. You get addicted to the adrenaline rush or zen like state it can put you in, and the risks become a necessary ingredient. I guess that's what leads them to face greater and greater exposure, until a few of them unfortunately get badly hurt or just plain dead.

Well I look forward to the movie after having read the book.
