    Camera Ski Sundown - 1.1.2012

    Date(s) Skied: 1.1.12

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown

    Conditions: spring snow. sunny warm

Trip Report: Put in a few hours today. Snow was nice and soft, great spring conditions, but for Jan 1 i'd prefer a blizzard.

Sundown is 100% open. They've done an amazing job with blowing snow and grooming. Park looked pretty good if you like that kind of stuff.

no crowds to speak of. lifts were ski on the whole time i was there. i play a game with the RFID gates, trying to see how fast i can go thru them without it stopping me. so far so good. last ride up of the day included about 15 minutes of stuckness.

Nice to see you out there Gary. Just me and my almost 9 year old today. Harrowing first run as she got way too out of control down N'E. The rest of the afternoon was some nice improvements for her. Worked on shin pressure, hands and a technique I learned with the race crew this week called the "thumper". Basically lightly lifting and tapping the uphill ski on turns - helps to track the uphill ski more parallel with the DH ski and break out of a slight wedge turn. She was surprisingly responsive to my suggestions today. Not like her. She's really falling in love with skiing this season and we are both proud of her improvement.

Love it when the young ones start to truly enjoy the sport for the sport itself, and not just for the novelty of the environment... Glad to hear the mtn is holding up... Hopefully some cold soon.
