Saw him at the top of Clairs at 3:30 yesterday...saw the hair (even under a hat) and instantly recognized him.
Guess he saw me staring and looked over at me so I took the opportunity to shake his hand and commend him on being a skiing icon for so many years. I think he was trying to blend in but appreciated the comment.
I appreciated his wife who is hot enough to melt the polar ice cap!
3:30 at the top of Claire;s - that must meen they fixed the lift. I was stuck on it for about 20 minutes, and when we got off they had closed the west side. They were only going to run the lift to get everyone up that was stuck down there.
Would have like to see him, how do you hide that hair under a hat? No wonder he stuck out.
Not sure if his wife is also taking the exam, I know she took the level 1 with him.
It was a great way to punctuate an awesome spring day of skiing.
My youngest son James took on lower K27 for the first time yesterday...I've been waiting for this type of weather to get him going. Once he got over the edge on top he just nailed it, big slushy bumps and all.
So of course we had to do that over and over again. He loved it.
Nice to see great minds think alike.
Skiing lends itself to long careers...it is a sport you can continue to improve at no matter how old you are.
And because older skiers continue with the sport, icons like Plake will always have a fan club. Some of the stuff he did in the 90's may seem tame compared to the crazy stuff skiers try to do now, but at the time he was as cutting edge in terms of terrain choice as you could get.
