Yup, if partying means as much as the skiing, Killington access road is calling your name. Snowfall and open terrain in December can be suspect but Killington has an extensive snow making system to support a lean year.

Just my own feeling but I actually think we might be in for a decent early (pre-christmas) year this season. I would agree with Killington as a logical choice. Hey maybe you get real lucky and Pico is open for a little variety. I know Hunter has been mentioned and I love the place along with having great memories of the party scene there back in the 80's but (and dmc can correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think its as robust as it used to be. (I've only been in-out on day trips recently). Hope you (and everyone else) gets to enjoy some good snow and good times.

Everyones grown up and has kids and a condo..

There are some new bars around - things are picking up but it's a more mellow scene..
Got a cool new bar called Cosmic Charlies that my band is playing at this winter...

First gig is Dec 28th... Ready to rock the joint!!!

Killington is a great place to Party, ski and ride...

Early season can be hit or miss anywhere in the north east.. I live in NYC and consider my home mountain Mt snow in vermont.. its the best skiing/boarding with the closest reach to nyc..

Mt snow has some good partying and a great snow making system.. If you are really into boarding Mt Snow is the place to go as they have the best riding park around..

As bad as the North east was last winter the conditions at Mt snow last new years were pretty good, was at Stratton for xmas and it wasnt that bad either..

My personal favorite resort within a 7 hour drive is Smugglers Notch in northern Vermont (I can't stand Stowe and its right next door), I also like Mont tremblant (north west of montreal) although its a but further to drive and might cause some problems crossing the border..

I am not from the states so please excuse my complete ignorance or strange questions, as i am trying to get the best answers to get my trip set up.

Ok so i am looking to drive from New York to a really great ski/ boarding area for me and a group of mates (aged 27 - 33). Had a look and saw that there are a lot of good looking places up north and wanted to find out if anyone had any suggestions for vibey, good snow fall, good slopes anywhere in a 500 odd mile range of New York. Thought about hiring a jeep and going to a place that has great pubs, parties young people and good snow in mid December. Even if it is a little further it is not a problem as i am sure there are great places to see on route, GOOD ROAD TRIPPING is GOOD.

I understand that a lot of really good skiers and boarders look for high peaks and untouched snow, but on a trip like this i am looking for a good place to have a good time. As well as being able to get a cabin or house and be in a busy village type environment.

Thanks to anyone who might have any suggestions.

OH i was thinking lake placid as a good place but as i say its just a thought.

    Regards,

    Sav.

Its just over a month away and seems Killington has had their first snowfall, as well as having a great pre-season opening thanks to their snow making efforts. All accommodation, passes and gear organised, just have to hold thumbs for good snow, get ready for the cold and hope Killington's vibe is good while we are there (and a couple of really hot American woman wouldn't hurt). So amped to hit the slopes again.

Hope you all have a great season.

    Thanks from South Africa.

Killington. Must do. You'll be able to ski. Some years see good snow by then. You never know. Just go.
