Hiking/snowshoe/winter boot

looking for something for walking around town in the snow, use for snowshoeing and then some hiking when the snow melts and its still cold out (i dont hike in the summer)

looking at some Garmont GTX, Hi-Tec Jackson hole etc on ebay...any suggestions?

Usually some sort of hiking boot gear guide at Backpacker magazine's site....along with LL Bean and a few lists at leading hiking-boot brand sites.
...if you haven't found any since 12/5....fwiw.
