it's an obsession, but it's pleasing

well, i'll tell you, stu, skiing's not a sport, it's a way of life...no hobby...it's a way of looking at that mountain and saying 'hey bud, let's party'

Friends and family say that about our family all the time! However, my kids are not quite there yet IMO. My wife on the other hand is almost there! I couldn't think of a better activity to be obsessed about - then again I am obsessed with it so naturally I think that way! Am I missing something?

This time of year is difficult. I try to use all the ticket deals before the mountains close requiring every weekend of this Spring to be a potential ski day. Easter I have agreed to not ski but it is Gore's last day! I have one more set ski day, Sugarbush with my daughters tommorrow! I hope it isn't my last day this season! Maybe just maybe Cinco de Mayo at Whiteface? I could touch snow 7 months this year!

Easter is a skiing tradition in our home! Sunrise Service at the top of Jay Peak at 6am, ski down around 7 am catch first chair when lifts open and then catch brunch at Alice's Table (YUM - they do a nice job) around 10 am then ski until 2 ish, kids go ice skating and/or to the water park while my wife and I sit at The Drink! This year, we got a 2 br condo for $150 on Saturday that includes a water park pass for all four of us.

My wife also wants to be skiing on Mothers Day at Jay Peak with Brunch at Alice's Table again!

I think the key to skiing into late season is that phrase

in my case my wife does not ski.....

Uh, yeah! My wife says this frequently.

Her obsession took years in the making (about 5-6 to get her stoked about it)! She started as a beginner (12 years ago) and now is pretty good and can ski most of any resort! Now she is the one asking where we plan on skiing every weekend. I even have her deal hunting, going to ski movies and works a booth at the ski shows!

Some of my neighbors think I'm obsessed especially when they see me loading/unloading my equipment on a beautiful spring day. I get the "there's still skiing up there" question. My wife lets me ski pretty much anytime I want & doesn't complain. She skied for over 30 years but for some reason gave it up several years ago so she understands my obsession.

edit: I get envious when I see a couple that are good skiers skiing together. I really do miss skiing with my wife.

My wife is a skier so she is just as obsessed. The only issue she has with respect to my skiing, is my obsession with other skis  She can't see the need for more than one pair. I tell her: my skis aren't jealous, neither should you be.

I think you need to elaborate on this and turn it into a 12 step thread for the rest of us which will permanently be pinned to the top of the forum!

I'm trying.....so far I got her to x-cross, which was actually a first for me as well.

Past couples of ski seasons has taken a toll on me, from nagging muscle pulls/tweaks to serious bruises. Sometime after the season I start feeling better. About 4 weeks ago, I took a spill on icy bumps and landed hard on my left shoulder, I have full range and strength but it felt sore when I move. About two week ago, I went nuts with the spring bumps and just felt spent for three or four days didn't want to think about skiing.

This morning was the first time everything feels fine, thinking about going to wildcat or kmart for some more.

I messed up my shoulder at the summit in February, and it still isn't better...!

I wonder how the bump skiing would be at Wildcat these days? I've only been once - last April - and it seemed like the bump runs were natural snow trails.

Tomcat Schuss usually has nice bump lines in the spring. Wildcat doesn't get a lot of zipper lines because of the "natural" features that exist.

Would love to be able to blow off my obligations and make up to the Sunrise Service. But there would probably be more repercussions then just "your obsessed" :-(
