Reynolds Niner MTN 29R XC Wheelset
The Niner MTN 29R XC Wheelset is built by hand at the Utah-based Reynolds factory. Since the wheels are assembled in house, every step of the build process is controlled, ensuring that each ultra-light wheel meets the highest standards.
The XC 29R carbon rim is built by using continuous fibers, laid in place by hand for a structural finish that is second to none. Reynolds also went with a slightly wider 19mm (internal) rim width and a 26mm (external) rim width to accommodate wider tires (Reynolds recommends running tires 2.0 to 2.3 inches). Reynolds also used a 24mm rim depth that has nothing to do with aerodynamics, and everything to do with strength.
Reynolds engineers paid close attention to the internal shape of the XC rim, incorporating a lip that seats tubeless tires for a secure, airtight seal to prevent rolling. The wheels are tubeless-ready, but accomplish this with an included a rim strip. The MNT 29R XC uses 24 black DT-Revolution spokes laced in a 2x pattern, and the alloy nipples are external to make re-tensioning and truing less of a chore than internal nipples. The 24-spoke wheels also incorporate high spoke tension to achieve maximum rigidity and responsiveness through the roughest terrain.
The RC Red hubs are the result of endless hours of testing by Reynolds. They use stainless steel cartridge bearings with a floating, 3-pawl system to optimize engagement. You won't run into any problems with compatibility, either. The hubs come standard with a bag of axle caps.
This means the Niner MTN 29R XC Wheelset is compatible with 9mm and 15mm thru-axle for the front end, and a 135mm QR and 142mm/12mm thru axles for the rear. It comes in one finish Black/Red.
