Camera Long Trail VT: Lincoln Gap to Lincoln Peak, Sept. 7, 2014

    Date: Sept 7, 2014
Where: Long Trail – round trip from Lincoln Gap to Lincoln Peak – approximately 7 miles
Conditions: Sunny, low humidity, some wet /muddy areas from the rain on Saturday

I did a solo hike from the Lincoln Gap to Lincoln Peak on a beautiful Sunday in early September. I picked up the Long Trail at the top of the Lincoln Gap which is at 2424’ elevation and hiked to the 4006’ summit of Mt Abraham and then on to Lincoln Peak which tops out at 3975’. It was a beautiful day and about 55 degrees when I started at 10:30 AM. It’s 2.6 miles from the Lincoln Gap to the top of Mt Abraham and another .8 miles to Lincoln Peak. I kept up a good pace and did the round trip in about 4.5 hours. There were many other hikers out as well as a few trail runners that I passed along the way.

Through this section of the Long Trail at elevation you are in a boreal forest of tight pines:

I am always impressed by the bright green color of the moss

The LT has some challenging sections including this rock scramble just below the Mt Abraham summit:

It was cool at the top with a nice breeze. Here’s the view looking south from the Mt Abraham summit:

It was an extra 20 minutes to get to the summit of Lincoln Peak. When I was there I said hello to my favorite Sugarbush snowmaker/liftie and AZ poster Shadyjay who was also hiking yesterday.

Here’s the view looking north from the top of Lincoln Peak:

It was another great day to hike the Long Trail and a fun way to get in shape for the ski season.

A very nice hike. Relatively easy too for a 4,000 footer. If you haven't done it yet, the hike from Lincoln Gap to App Gap is a lot of fun.

I have done pretty much all of the Monroe Skyline, just in different sections and plan to do the App Gap to Lincoln Gap this fall.

Loading pics here is a total PITA. They show up when you do the original post and then disappear
