Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio 2 Saddle
Selle Italia's SLR saddle shape has won the brand countless fans over the years, so it only makes sense to continue improving on this perennial favorite. That's why Selle Italia gave the Kit Carbonio 2 Saddle carbon fiber rails. The result is the same SLR shape that we all know and love, less a few grams, and with extra vibration damping for all-day comfort.
The Kit Carbonio is yet another staple piece in Selle Italia's SLR line, and as such, it employs the classic SLR shell shape. It's decidedly thin on padding, which keeps it comfortable on all-day rides, rather than generating hot-spots as over-padded saddles often do. The 131mm width of the wings provides a comfortable perch for those of us with average width sit bones, and our experience shows us that the SLR shape tends to get better with time. The nylon composite shell employs a 30% blend of carbon fiber, which yields an ideal balance between support and flex. Accordingly, this pairing of characteristics tends to cancel out the harshest of road vibrations.
The Carbonio uses carbon fiber seat rails in order to knock the weight down to around 125 grams -- only around 30 grams heavier than Selle Italia's flagship SLR Techno saddle. The solid carbon fiber rails are not only svelte, but they also add a great deal of strength. Additionally, the carbon, and its ovalized shaped rails, is far more proficient at dissipating vibration and jarring than either Vanox or titanium. And since this system works in conjunction with a carbon-reinforced nylon shell, chatter is significantly reduced, nearly eliminating numbness and discomfort.
