I don't know if this one's been done but since the call was placed for threads that aren't the same old same old I'll throw this one out there. Who are the people you really don't want to be seen with on the mountain but for some reason you've got to spend at least part of your day skiing/riding with them. Here's mine.

My brother in law. Great guy who lives in Florida and is a blast to hang with on the beach or on a boat. He only sees snow once a year, or every other year, when the extended family takes a big ski vacation. You can't miss him if you happen to be on the same mountain the day he's there; two-horned viking hat, blue jeans, legs close together skidding out turns and arms extended out in what I call his "crucified Jesus" style. Early in my relationship with my wife when she would refer to him as a good skier I would reply with something like, "yeah his style may look good to some on groomers but he can't carve a turn worth a crap and he breaks down badly on anything that isn't groomed." I don't say anything now when she or anyone else in the family calls him a good skier. Again, great guy but going by myself on a powder day would be preferable to skiing/riding with him.

The only people that I have to ski with, and drive me crazy are the people who need to stop and talk every single turn, or trail crossing. I have no problem stopping at a trail turn if Im bouncing off to a different trail, just to make sure others follow, but as soon as you see me I am ready to take off. I don't want to talk about the last 200yds.

The person I like the least skiing with is me. I've developed some bad habits over the years like unabashed burping in public, farting in gondolas and hot tubs, scratching at inappropriate places. And then there's ill-timed laughter in uncomfortable social situations, speaking my mind honestly when it would be better to keep my trap shut. And as I get older my skiing endurance is diminishing which leads to too many beers at lunch which leads to many faceplants after lunch.
"Excuse me bartender, do you have any locally brewed beers on tap"
"All our beers are brewed locally"
"Excellent, I'll have one of each"

But seeing as I'm always around and I can't get away from me, I just try and make the best of it.

Krikaya, with your avatar and self image issues you need to watch this old episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents about Max Collodi, the ventriloquist

Pretty creepy video featuring a young William Shatner minus 100lbs of middle aged paunch. I remember watching this many years ago. Self-deprecating humor needs it's own emoticon. This one will have to do:grin:

Fantastic.

My boss is a jeans guy, but I actually love riding with him because people look at him like he's a skis-once-a-year gaper but then he jumps in the woods and shreds. He finally found a pair of real ski pants he likes so now he blends in and it's really not as fun.

It's not really embarassing, but I hate riding with girls that are more interested in looking cute than just ripping some turns. Those types are what's wrong with America.

I've got a couple of snowboarding friends who aren't very good sober. Couple that with the whiskey they like to bring makes for a frustrating day when they get too drunk to ride decently. Last time one of them slid out on the heel side, smacked his face into the ground, got a black eye, and swore he'd "never go back to that skiers mountain ever again." (Sugarbush)

I don't mind having a shot or a beer (or 2) over the course of the day, but their bad abilities get worse with consistent drinking.

Right where I want to be
People who sleep too late, give me a look when I want to boot up in the parking lot, Take too long when they actually do go into the lodge, order a breakfast sandwich when it is already 10 o'clock and we still haven't taken a run.
I can't complain about go to the bar - I like a beer or 2. If they stay in there too long i just leave and hit the slopes with anyone willing to go (or by myself) and meet up later and usually find them sitting in the same place at the end of the day.

Worst part about group trips.. Thats why we have 2 cars go to the mountain.. An early and late trip.. Helps in afternoon also if people want to head home earlier and not stay to the bell.. Hate skiing with my buddies significant others.. They only care about looks and only last an hour or so on the hill.. Then complain when the boys say see ya later.. Its getting better now that they just stay back.

I have several different scenarios:

One year our boys raided my parent home (Vermont) and found old hunting jackets and pants (the wool type). The color patterns were florescent orange or hunter plaid. We were heading to Jay Peak and they wanted to wear this stuff. Year prior to that I found the boys not doing something because they were afraid of what people thought and my response was "Who cares what others think!". Well, they threw that right back at me and told them fine. And they did. We all laughed about but it looked like we were skiing with two rednecks.

Two years ago we were planning a trip to SR and one of our friends wanted to come. She said that she snowboarded in the past so we told her that was fine. We pick her up the day of the trip and she looked like something out of a fashion magazine holding a brand new snow (oh boy). We got to SR and she asked if we could start with something easy so we went up White Cap Quad when she got of the lift, I knew we were in trouble. She could not snowboard for crap. Her boyfriend was helping/training her while my wife and I took a run. Got back to the top and she was crying. At that point, I decided I would escort her down by wedging my skis and having her board parallel and against one of my skis. I held he forward hand while I had my other hand around her waist and she vise versa. We looked like we were dancing. We did the entire run that way. Once at the bottom, I drover her to the other lodge and enrolled her in a lesson. She never snowboarded again after that day.

I have many stories like this - they make for good memories later on!

HAha...

I would say my seven and four year old kids are the most embarrassing to me. Its great when we have a good day but they can ruin a day on the slopes fast- like real fast. Flopping around on the ground, blaming me or mom for (insert current problem), embarrassing comments in the bath room etc etc...

the drag asses that cant hit the slopes till 11 and stop for lunch and then every two runs are high on my pet peeve list( possibly a whole new thread), my wife is just coming around to seeing what a full day of skiing is to me.

I got a buddy, who is a good friend, and I ski and bike with him. He is a decent skier but insists on carrying all his gear including but not limited to 3-4 bottles of water in his shell. putting aside that he looks ridiculous with all the stuff in his pockets, there is nary a run where there isnt a bottle of water flying off somewhere.

My son is my one of my favorite people to ski with but can quickly ruin a day when he wants to do trails that are way beyond his abilities. Then we more often than not have to start climbing back up the mountain to a "safe" trail.

I try to avoid embarrassing people I have to ski with, but there's only so much you can do when you're a top 30 skier on Satan's staircase!
