Just got it delivered yesterday. What an awesome picture even over the cable with the upscaling. Replace the old Sony XBR rear projection only 1080i. I had to get a new receiver though that would pass a 4k signal.

I think I need to watch ski porn on it.

It came with a UHD pack of 10 movies and 30 documentaries. The cameras used on a couple of the documentaries are incredible.

Those look cool, but I've heard they aren't great if you are watching off at an angle.

My son said the same thing, actually not bad at all. We looked at them in the store and he changed his opinion. The curve is really not that much but does immerse you like IMAX if you are in the very center.

BTW, the Sony was 3-4X the cost of this TV when I bought it 10 years ago at Tweeter and is only 1080i and 60Hz.

Yeah, haven't seen one in person yet. Just going by what someone told me.

My wife and I saw one at Best Buy when we were out Christmas shopping for the kids a week or so ago, and even she commented to me after seeing the picture quality that it might be time to upgrade the Christmas present she got me 2 years ago hanging on the wall in our family room, and she's usually not one to be "wowed" by new technology!!

Bought a Sony 4K 3D 55" a couple of months ago. The upscaling is surprisingly good sometimes. HBO content tends to be the best, for some reason. Breaking Bad and House of Cards are supposedly streamed (Netflix) in 4K and ,damn, they do look good.

I'm waiting for the price to drop on the big 4K panels before I pull the trigger on panel, AV receiver and 4K disc player for both houses. 65" isn't quite big enough to justify swapping out a 50" Panny plasma. The 85" panels are still pushing $10K. I'm hoping that by the time I'm buying, the black levels on the LED panels will start approaching Pioneer-Kuro/Panasonic plasma quality. My Panny plasmas are 4 1/2 years old. I doubt prices will drop to hit my price point for another 3 years.

Dont plasmas suck down electricity compared to the new TV's? My electric bill went down like 5 bucks a month when I upgraded from Plasma to LED.

I realize we are only talking like 50 bucks a year either way, but two houses, two tvs, amortized out over a couple years, might make that upgrade look better.

Walmart had a 55inch 4k TV on sale during Black Friday for $700

Was tempting, but I'd like to see more 4k programming come out before I make the switch though

Consumerism is amazing. My "parabolic" TV is a 720p Panasonic plasma......essentially ancient technology now. I paid $1300 for it right before the 2007 World Series. I've never been unhappy with the picture.

Yeah that was my concern. Of course, they argue "upscale", which I wasn't convinced of, at first. This TV was quite a step up from my 40" 720p Samsung.

Another thing: 3D, which I've never been a huge fan of. It's pretty fun watching a good special effects movie with the 3D. We've watched Edge of Tomorrow, Sin City 2, and Guardians/Galaxy, and we're kind of blown away by how effective it is.

With the glasses on?

Yes. It's passive 3D, and I find the glasses far more comfortable than the theater ones. You have to consider it purposeful viewing, with visually striking films only. Again, I was very skeptical but now I consider it a fun night at home.

Yep. My plasmas the way I have them configured pull about 400 watts. I'm not going to change my behavior over $5.00/month electric bill. I'm not a "television is always on" person. I only watch sports and commercial-free movies.
