Texting and skiing? WTF!

Was at Elk recently , Got off the chair and headed for Upper Tunkannock trail pretty much straight down the fall line after a short 180 from the ramp a little crossing traffic from uphill skiers right .
I look up hill to see a girl 19-21ish with no poles and gloves dangling from strings attached to sweater sleeves . Holding her smart phone at shoulder level with arms outstreched . We were on a collision corse at a realitively slow speed.
I kept going to see if she would even attempt an evasive maneuver.....nothing not even eye contact!!@##$%^
I did a quick stop and watched here cranking away with both thumbs, she kept going slowly gaining speed , down a blue square 100yds off and still going at it , as I was stoped 2 other guys quiped and had a good laugh .....

This sounds like someone who deserves to be sprayed by a hockey stop snow shower. Oops. Sorry. Didn't see you there.

Not quite the same situation, but I hope you will find this entertaining:

I have a friend with whom I ski regularly. This guy runs his business from the chairlift, routinely texting on the ride up - even on the coldest days. He says that it is the only thing that allows to him to ski 75 days (give or take) per season. He got a phone call from his business, saying that he was needed immediately for a conference call associated with a multi-million dollar deal. His helmet includes a blue-tooth. He proceeded to follow me down a reasonably tough glade run while not missing a beat on the conference call. Afterwards he said to me, "No one was aware that he was skiing throughout the entire call (which spanned two runs), except the CEO (who works for him), whom he had told in advance he was skiing." In the post-mortem to the call, also handled while skiing a gnarly abandoned lift line, his CEO said that the phone did pick up background noise while we were getting back on the lift, but no one was the wiser. It's amazing what one can do on skis if one is good enough!

That is cool I rather not mix skiing relaxing and work not relaxing but I blue collar worker.

And if she skied into a tree and died, her parents would sue the mountain for not telling her she shouldn't text and ski. I agree with Savemeasammy. Future procedure should be to spray them.

As for the guy on the conference call, I think that's pretty cool, even though it annoys me when I'm on the lift with guys like that. I can see during the week, but on a weekend, leave the job at work. If I could, I would definitely do my job from the slopes though. Scotty is right, I don't like mixing business with pleasure but it wouldn't be all the time. If it meant riding 75+ days a year, you're damned right I'd do it.

I have bluetooth for that exact purpose. Several years ago, I kept getting calls from techs and I would take con calls on the mountain too. I would mute and listen while I was skiing. I forogt to mute one ime while on a call with an Intel fab. Everyone was telling me to mute since they could hear the wind thru the mic as I was skiing. I also have call at night with Asia and weekends with customers, it is annoying. But if I do have stop and take the calls during the week then. Guess what? I worked.

My wife often conducts business from the chairlift. She works for an international firm heading up global recruiting. Unfortunately, her clock never really stops. Likewise, I head up IT for a utility company and skiing on a stormy day results in calls and texting due to possible outages but only from the lift or in the lodge.

Texting while skiing is asking for trouble and is not only dangerous for her but for others around her. Then again there lots of videos where people are texting and fall in to fountains, walk in front of cars or even trip over stuff - that is our society now!

Cannabis makes me better skiier. I have more cofindence. I don't get crazy stoned. Other drugs should not be smart to due while on a hill it not fun or healthy and I definitely do not due in or recommending that. Did it when I was stupid and young not fun overdose is possible . live and learn.
