Camera Mount Snow - Foggy Edition - 3/17/2015

    Date(s) Skied: 3/17/2015

Resort or Ski Area: Mount Snow - Dover, VT

Conditions: Wet Packed Snow, Fog, More Fog and Even More Fog!

Trip Report: So today was my first trip to mount snow in probably, ever. I did go there when I was about 10 years old, if I remember correctly, but never quite did ski the mountain. Taking advantage of the st. paddy's day special, I figured it a no brainer. Because of the conditions (and not knowing the mountain), I did stick to only the blues (well since there were only blues, with the exception of the pod off the summit). But because, I didn't know where I was, the contours of the mountain and the fog... I figured to play it safe. Also, with the special, you had plenty of gapers in jeans (I ended up calling ski patrol since one did dislocate his knee), but I did have a good day out. Here are some photos:

    Is there a trail there?

A post mortem now that I am at work. A couple of things that stood out to me now were the amount of tri-state people on the mountain. It certainly felt like the Tri-State area North. Most of the people that I rode the lift were from NYC, or Long Island. I felt like I was visiting my mother-in-laws neck of the woods! It may be me, but Mount Snow skis smaller and flatter than I would have expected. Granted, I didn't ski any north face stuff (since I couldn't see 2 feet in front of me), but even coming off the summit it seemed a lot less bigger. Although for $17 I can't complain, I was very happy to be out on the snow, and cannot wait to get to my home hill saturday/sunday... Been a month too long since I have been to gunstock!

The main face doesn't give a real good perspective on the acreage available. Still got Carinthia, Sunbrook and the North Face which really round the mountain out.

I always felt like there were way more MA and CT people than NY/NJ.

I did take a run down Sunbrook, it was probably the best / most interesting run altogether (walt's run?). I did not hit up Carinthia as it was all parks or something along those lines - nor did I hit North Face, because I couldn't see in front of me, I figured I would save it for another day. Looking at their trail report for today, it seems that all of north face is closed too. Not a bad mountain, but not one I would pay a ton of money to ski.
