Bellwether Optime Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

BK.jpg

Bellwether is based in California, which means the people there enjoy temperate conditions for year-round cycling. This didn't stop them from thinking about those of us who get stuck in the high 90s and low 100s every July, though, as evidenced by the Bellwether Optime Jersey.
The Optime Jersey incorporates two materials in its efforts to bring cold back: CoolTemp on the back panel and CoolMax everywhere else. CoolTemp uses some proprietary technology to deflect heat from the sun and actually cool your skin by a claimed two to five degrees. CoolMax cools in a more traditional manner, wicking moisture from your skin and diffusing it broadly across the fabric's surface, which leads to faster evaporation and enhances your body's natural cooling process. CoolMax also sits at the top end of the breathability spectrum, so air moves through it freely.
The jersey is also gently compressive, so the comfort you gain from the lightweight materials is accompanied by a paradoxically secure fit. While compression may have a more immediate impact in shorts, the reduction of muscle vibration in your arms and shoulders means that fatigue won't gradually creep through the handlebars into your upper body. This combination of breathability and compression recommend it for summertime touring and charity centuries as much as criterium hammer fests.
The fabric makes no compromises to comfort, so Bellwether apparently decided that the fit would have to follow suit. The Optime is cut according to the Elite CS design philosophy, which approaches wind resistance with the same zero tolerance attitude with which the Optime approaches heat. Through stretchy materials and anatomic panel placement, the Optime fits like a second skin to virtually eliminate extra wind resistance.
The jersey is rounded off with a few additional touches that elevate it to the top of Bellwether's line, with the most notable inclusions being the microfiber arm bands and compression hem, both of which keep the jersey in place without pinching or restricting. More common details include flatlock seams, a dual-colored front zipper, three rear pockets, and waterproof zip pocket for your phone, keys, or ID. It also has X-Factor direct vent inserts for even more cooling prowess, and reflective elements to help keep you visible even if you get an early, pre-dawn start.
