Date(s) Hiked: 2-10-07
Trails(s) Hiked: Nancy Pond, herd path
Total Distance: ~11
Difficulty: Very Hard
Conditions: Deep drifts by the pond, very steep snowy herd path
Special Required Equipment: Snowshoes
Trip Report:
donna, Pamola (kyle) and I (all of vftt) bagged this NEHH list peak on a pretty decent day. Wasn’t windy except at the pond. Snow was nice and fluffy. Trail was broken in up to the ponds but not beyond. The herd path itself was very well defined, but also VERY steep! There were some great views of stairs mtn (oh –that’s- why its called stairs mtn!). as well as a really neat frozen cascade along the way. We even found a tree arched over the trail in a most unusual way!
Great hike! Lots of vertical, but it doesn’t feel like it (except up the herd path).
