Cornhead and I skied Elk Mountain for their Winterfest day with Demo skis. We bought our lift tickets in advance at Cliff House ski shop in Vestal NY and they were $30. each. Skiing was great early and later in the day there was ice patches developing from skiers scraping off the base layers. Other guys from Alpine Zone I saw were SpringMountain High and Jim G. Demos skis, I tried: Blizzard Bonafide, K2 Pinnacle 95, Volkl Mantra, Rossignol Soul 7 and Line Supernatural 100. I liked the Volkl Mantra the best.

I see four of the same pic, kudos to Elk, almost 100℅ open with zero natural snow. Tunkhannock was fun, man-made Styrofoam bumps. Everything else was Firm and fast.

Cornhead I owe you $30 for the ticket you got me. I like Elk and try to ski there at least once a year. After skiing with you and Jim I ate lunch and went back over to Tunk. The right half of the trail was getting a little firm but skier's left where the bigger bumps were stayed soft and edgeable until the bitter end. The left edge was particularly sweet. Elk does bumps right. Once they get a good bump field established they stop grooming and top coat the bumps every 2 weeks or so. Turns out yesterday was a "day after top coating day" and the bumps had nice manmade on them. Best bumps I've skied all season. Good to ski with you Jim and Bob and nice to see you on the lift Dan. Will get back to Elk this season.
