Conditions: powder and packed powder, firm, corn. (Dependent on time of day)

Saturday was somewhat of a gamble since the weather was going to be unsettled. We headed up to A Basin for the morning and arrived to pretty firm conditions. It was mostly cloudy and it stayed like that for the most part. By the time we left 12:30 ish it was on and off snowing and the conditions were like mid winter. But the real story was Sunday where we had a bluebird sky, temp around 28 when we arrived at 9, and over night 2-4 of fresh had fallen, outdoor concert and a Brewfest - perfect.

The trails skied great all morning and we were excited about the conditions. While the groomers were firm and fast they did not stay that way very long. I did not even attempt bump runs until later. However, we did areas like West Wall and East Wall which I was surprised was open due to visible slide activity. East Wall had a nice powder coating with a out 4 inches of light and fluffy. I could not beleive what I was skiing on May 28th. Even Pali was still open which was supposed to have closed two weeks ago which I did not ski until the afternoon and how sweet it was - soft spring bumps. I also hit Exhibition and Ramrod but Exhibition apparently was heavily skied - always is. Around 2 we hung it up to check out the band and Brewfest. The band was really good and the beer was great. For $30 you drank all the beer you want. I opted for single beers checking out IPAs that were new to me. Most I have already had since they were all Colorado breweries. It was a party though!

It was a very fine day. Could not have been any better. There is still so much snow. BTW we met a lot of people for Boston, NJ, NY, DC, and one from FL. For many this was the latest day skiing.

Will miss next weekend but luckily there will be at least one more weekend after that. Right Round Decrums Gulch there is a natural pond also used for a literal pond skim, well there is so much snow it is still covered. Last year or was starting to show at this time.

crazy:

have they picked a closing date?
They announced June 11th but if there is still significant snow, which there will be, they will possibly extend. But that will start to push up against summer activities they have planned. So we shall see. Last year on June 12th they were down to one run from off Black Mountain Express and a few from the top of Lenawee. Last year at this time the pond was starting to show. No signs of that yet.
