Area skied: Mohawk Mountain, C.T
Date skied: April 1st, 2007 from 10:00am - 1:00pm
Surface conditions: Machine groomed, spring snow
Weather: sun at first, then high clouds, 44F.
Today was Mohawk Mountain's annual ski for free day, something they have been doing since they opened in 1946, and it was a nice day to enjoy some soft snow and warm weather.
Warren and I where suprised by the large amount of snow left on the mountain for a ski area closing today:
Our first run was down Timber and we noticed that Wildwood did not have any moguls on it, which is the first time that I can remember it being groomed from top to bottom. Timber had some nice practice moguls on it about halfway down on skiers right:
This trail as about 1-2' of cover in general with an easy 3-4' in most spots and should hold it's snow well into spring. Wildwood was fun for just doing bombing runs down the groomed snow, and it was the same with Rim Rock and Mohawk.
Pinnacle from the summit had edge to edge snowcover as well:
All in all we had a great day on the snow and how could you go wrong with a ski area giving away lift tickets. So with this, we say goodbye to the season of lift serviced skiing in Connecticut.
