Loon Mountain

30's - Cloud Cover – Limited Sunshine – Snow Making in Progress

It was a relief to see the parking lots with snow in them. They were making snow on open and closed trails.

The Kancamagus Quad Lift, Gondola and the North Peak Quad were open. The Gondola line was 20-minutes long and we skied right on to both Quads.

We skied from 9:00 to 12:00. Overall the upper mountain trail conditions were NEW ENGLAND HARD PACK groomed on top.

On North Peak, only Sunset was open and they were making snow on it. Of the remaining upper trails open, Upper Bear Claw was in the best condition. Lower elevation trails were hard pack with softer groomed snow on top.

All upper elevation trails merged at Grand Junction and what a mess that become around 11:00. From Grand Junction you could travel to any lift via Lower Bear Claw, Lower Picked Rock, or the Link, still most skiers were using the Gondola.

We found the North Peak Quad "Loop Trial" to be less crowded overall, and made that our primary route of entertainment. There were a lot more skiers today than the last few weeks with both base lodges, Camp III and the Peak Café open.

Overall the mountain conditions are looking good. It appears they had natural snowfall and that if it stays below freezing in the evening, the mountain is not far from opening the more popular trails such as Haulback, Walking Boss, Angel Street, and so on…. I’m looking forward to when they open the East Basin area.
