Date(s) Hiked: June 30, 2003
Trails(s) Hiked: Ammo Ravine/Crawford/Gulfside/Jewel
Total Distance: Just under 11 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Conditions: sunny and clear everywhere but on Gulfside and the summit
Special Required Equipment: Plenty of caloric foods, water and film!
Trip Report:
Ghostdog and I went hiking with Patricia, Marianne, Kate and John on Monday at 8:30 AM, ascending the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to the Lakes in the Clouds hut, where we ate lunch and left our gear to summit Mt Monroe and the long photo shoot with superb views in all directions. Back to the hut to show and ask Anastasia, the hut naturalist , the petrology of Monroe and to discuss the area geology.
Next was the long rock pile, Crawford Trail and the 1.4 mi., 1.2 hour hike to Big George. The summit was in the clouds (again) while we were there, the veggie soup was hot and rewarding on a super afternoon with a 45 degree temperature & 40 mph winds! Returning via Jewel Trail, this was an 11 mile, 10 hour day of wonderful fellowship with tons of great picture taking -- even in the clouds. Hope to see you on the mountain of fun!
