TRAIL BRIDGES AND STREAM CROSSINGS

Due to heavy rains this spring, a number of trail bridges on the White Mountain National Forest were destroyed or heavily damaged. As of today nine bridges have been reported as impassable. Those bridges are located on the Black Angel, Brookside, Caribou, Dry River, Gale River, Jewell, Rob Brook, Trestle, and Wild River Trails. Though signs warning hikers have been posted on trails with known damaged or missing bridges, not all bridges on the Forest have been inspected and we expect more damaged and missing bridges to be found. Hikers should be prepared to encounter missing or damaged bridges and to treat any bridge crossing with extreme caution.

A current and regularly updated list of damaged and washed out bridges is posted on the WMNF web site, www.fs.fed.us/r9/white/, is available by phone at (603)528-8721, or is available at any WMNF visitor center.
