Date(s) Hiked: November 2, 2008

Trails(s) Hiked: Rattlesnake Cliffs Trail up, Aunt Jennie Trail down.

Total Distance: About 5 miles RT.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Conditions: Bridge is out above Falls of Lana; tricky crossing. Some wet leaves made for slippery going.

Special Required Equipment: Digital Camera, poles.

Trip Report: A nice afternoon hike up to Rattlesnake Cliffs, which I had never been up. The hike was nice, but the lower bridge is out, so take notice.

Rattlesnake Trail ascends from the stream in northernly direction and then bears to the east and makes a sweeping ascent through a small valley before angling back west to the cliffs. It is a nice ascent in the fall because you can see quite a ways through the trees and gain some interesting perspectives of the areas. It was well marked and maintained and it was never really steep.

The views from the top are quite nice to say the least:

Descent was via the much more direct Aunt Jennie trail, which steeply descends Mount Moosalamoo off the Rattlesnake Cliffs Trail. In essence, it cuts off quite a bit of the meandering. Footing was a bit slippery with the leaves, so take care.

On the second to last photo, there appears to be a small lake on top of the mountain. Did you pass it in your travels?
