Outdoor Research Recalls Warming Gloves Due to Burn Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: "Primovolta" and "Primavolta" Warming Gloves
Units: About 900
Manufacturer: Outdoor Research Inc., of Seattle, Wash.
Hazard: The glove's electric heating pad can short circuit and overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received five reports of the gloves overheating, including one consumer who suffered burns to her hand.
Description: The recalled winter gloves are black-colored and have a battery-powered heating element. The gloves included in the recall are style number 77000 (men's) in sizes S, M, L, XL, and style number 77010 (women's) in sizes S, M, L. The product name is printed on the inside cuff of the left glove.
Sold at: Major outdoor specialty retailers from September 2008 through January 2009 for about $260.
Manufactured in: China and Sri Lanka
Remedy: Consumers should stop using these gloves immediately and contact Outdoor Research for a full refund or credit.
