Spam, porn spam included, gets posted to internet forums all the time. The forum software that this site uses employs several techniques to try to prevent it. Unfortunately the spam bots always seem to find a way around those provisions and spam gets through. We work very hard to delete all spam as soon as we see it, or it's reported. If you see spam, or something offensive then report it using the report (
report.gif
) button under the offending users name. That way all the moderators will be alerted to the posts and take the appropriate actions. Quoting the spam and simply bitching about it in the thread is of no help what so ever as then it just makes extra crap for us to have to delete. I also think that blaming AZ is uncalled for, whether you're referring to the community at large, or the staff. The community is not responsible for such posts, and I can tell you that those of us on the moderator staff work hard to keep it clean. We simply can't be everywhere at once though.

In this particular case I had just deleted the same spam post made by a different spambot user, in a different thread, that several people had reported using the report feature. Since that was the only post reported I carried on my normally scheduled browsing, not checking on that thread because I'm not really interested in considering when my season is going to end. Had the spam been reported I would have deleted it at the same time.

I understand that you're upset the your 11 YO son had to see the spam, but unfortunately it's something that you have to expect to run into on the internet from time to time. When I saw the reported post alert for the above mentioned post I wasn't all that thrilled that it popped up while my 3.5 and 1.5 YO children were eating their dinner behind me, luckily I don't think they were able to see the screen at that time.

If you can figure out a way to stop these spambots then please do, I don't like having to deal with their crap any more than you do.

The irony of this thread is that no other forum I belong to is better moderated than AlpineZone. AZ mods are the most vigilant in reducing spam and keeping the "crap" out. Even on powder days!!!! In addition, EVERY member worth his/her weight in salt here helps to keep order. That's the way we roll in AlpineZone.

i've been a daily reader on AZ for a couple of years. I think i've only come across porn spam twice. the one mentioned above was one of them, luckily for me my kids weren't next to me but i've had that happen before. opened an email with my then 4 or 5 yo daughter next to me and a naked blond appeared on the screen. my daughter pointed to it and said "Dad, why is the barbie doll on your computer?"

i'd say you guys do a great job keeping this place running well.

AZ does a very fine job in comparison to MOST other forums in keeping this kind of thing under control .

I have frankly never seen this problem here in the several years i have been with AZ. I think we all need to be cool yet vigilant and report it when it materializes as others have said

Good job guys !

as the youngest person probably here (15) id like to remind you that you shouldnt kid yourself that your son doesnt know about porn. as much as i understand that you probably felt embarrased its not a good move to blame this on greg and the mods. they do a great job of keeping things clean.

but im just a kid myself. what would i know right?

So report it! :)

Spam happens. Everywhere. It's a matter of how quickly it's reported, and if someone is around who can respond to it. If the mods are out skiing, it might take longer than usual for reported spam to be cleaned up, KWIM?

Post when your season ends has some porn post on it. Reading post with my 11 year old son. NOT GOOD. Come on AZone. Let's keep it clean here.

AZ mods do a very good job keeping spam out. This is a forum for members to post and there are going to be times when there are no mods on here. The only way to combat it would be for the mods to approve every post. Would you really want that? I wouldn't.

Take it from Bob

Saw that spam post last week as I posted to "when will your season end" I hit the report button and blam bingo it was gone.

Tip: Don't open your email with your son around he'll think you need help with your manhood. You know the little blue pill, Male Enhancement and all. Spam is hard to avoid and I think AZ does a killer job removing it.

Does seem like AZ is getting a lot more spam recently...I report it as soon as I see it but I do wonder why the increase.
