Date(s) Hiked: 10/1

Trails(s) Hiked: Ascended the 1990 Slide on the eastern face. Descended the Lake Arnold trail back to the Loj.

Total Distance: Approximately 11 miles round trip.

Difficulty: The trailed sections are mild to moderate and gradually climb in elevation. The slide was moderate to difficult. It was very steep at times.

Conditions: The trails were a bit wet and muddy due to significant rain in the days preceding the hike. The slide's slabs were almost entirely dry with few exceptions.

Special Required Equipment: None. I would recommend wearing sneakers or rock climbing shoes for the slide.

Trip Report: I highly recommend this route up Colden. The slide varies immensely. It starts off as a series of terraces before funneling into a beautifaul, narrow section complete with a waterfall. The slide opens back up and gradually gets steeper until the final series of slabs. The herdpath at the top is brief, and easy to follow.

The views were somewhat hazy due to warm weather. The foliage was spotty and overall didn't make for very colorful photographs.

Here are some PICS of the climb.
