Took the kids and my youngest brother (who will be 20 later this month) to the Bronx Zoo today. Nice day to be outside! It was a bit hot and dragging 2 kids who total about 80 lbs around in a wagon all day was not the best idea, but they had a blast. Photo ops...not so great. I was messing around with manual settings and didn't get them quite right (which unfortunately I couldn't tell until I got home that they were off a smidge or two). :( However, some highlights...
  • Today was apparently primate-pleasure-yourself day. Especially the baboons. Good thing the kids weren't noticing when the males all had a little fun together.
  • Noticed for the first time some squirrel-like animals roaming freely in Jungleworld. They were jumping around in the trees right above our heads and if they were a bit slower, we could have reached up and touched them.
  • Also noticed the fruit bats roaming freely in Jungleworld. They were fascinating.
  • Lemurs smell very bad on hot days, even though they live entirely indoors.
My son was fantastic last time with the potty-training himself thing and kept dry all day. Today, not so much. Tried a few times but didn't produce anything more than dirty diapers. Ugh. He also got carsick on the way there and puked in the car somewhere in Danbury on Route 84. Not fun.

My daughter is already planning our next trip. Photos are loading to flickr now so I'll update with some of them in the morning.

That's it for the photos. Not really liking the post-processing on the gorilla pics so I may have to redo them--too much green.

Thanks for looking!

They're on flickr but I didn't think Greg would appreciate me posting them. Some of it I didn't even realize what I captured until after the fact. Crazy baboons... There was another primate in the Congo exhibit that is usually sleeping when we go... yesterday, he was in the back corner having a bit of fun. I realized this after I shot the pic...then promptly deleted it.

those are some awesome pics. I hope the folks on the photography forum don't say they're bad...

Yeah, I'm not posting them on there. But thanks. :D I took their criticism and I'm learning from it but I have a long way to go still...

I would so love to spend a day at the zoo without the kids focusing only on the photography. But that's not likely to happen. It would have to be an overcast-but-not-raining day, too--sunshine causes a lot of challenges (and the sun really shone that day!).
