Pretty sure you need decent amounts of power for Abaqus.

I can't see the point of netbooks. Maybe for a small portion of the population that needs to be connected all the time any place they go. But then again their are smart phones for that sort of thing. So perhaps someone that hates using smart phones but needs the constant plugged in factor. Otherwise, it costs so little to have a full featured laptop for a few extra pounds. I think the extra weight is worth it.

Tough I dig how many Netbooks comes with Linux Though good luck running all your internet streaming video with Linux.... I still have issues and personally can't wait to see how much Windows 7 has improved on Vista. If Windows wasn't such a dog on my PC, I probably would have switched back by now.

Try high quality video with netbooks at all, no matter the OS. No hardware video decode.

I just got mrs root a HP DV2 series laptop. It weighs under 4 lbs. As I was installing her software and transferring files over, I thought that it is a decent size for me for web, email....

not for working on schematics or huge spreadsheets though

I think you just made his decision for him. Can't be without video after all.

I personally couldn't live without a 1920x1200 WUXGA display. That puts me way out of the netbook category.

I'm typing this on an Acer Aspire One netbook with a 160GB HDD not the small "solid state drive", it goes for about $299 through Amazon.com. The reason I went with the netbook was it's light weight because I travel all the time for my job and I can just stick it right into my overnight bag and not have to have a separate laptop bag. I hate having more than two bags (my flight case is my second bag).

The typing took a little getting used to but after a few days I was able to type on this just as well as a desktop. Also I have a few DVD's on this computer in full quality (they are not compressed or anything) and they look just as good as they do on my standard def tv's (I don't have a Hi Def TV to compare it with yet). I just ripped them to my desktop and transerred them with a USB drive and run the DVD's with Power DVD. I also use it to play emulated videogames and it does a good job with that.

This netbook is pretty much my primary computer now, I rarely turn on my desktop anymore. So far I can say that I like this netbook a lot and haven't had any problems with it. BTW it is running XP home.

If he has any X series TPs, I could be interested. Would you ask him for me?

I had an X61s at my old job and loved it...
