Greg (or mods), have you ever considered some official AZ ski club as an offshoot of the message boards? i have no idea what it takes to establish and maintain but every once in a while a message pops up that makes me wonder about joining a club for the sole purpose of discounted tickets...

I had suggested this two seasons ago when I discovered what great savings clubs offered. I joined up for ACE that season and had a very positive experience.

I seem to recall the response being that it just wasn't worth the work to set it up. My understanding is most of the lift ticket deals and admin work are done in the spring. I recall making my ticket purchases in June.

This seems like reinventing the wheel. There are already a lot of ski clubs out there and the likelihood that AZ could get any better discounts than what is already available seems unlikely. This was tried on SnowJournal when that site had the most active northeast skiing related forums. A gung ho guy with a lot of experience with this type of stuff got it up and running, there was a web site, membership card, discounts, etc. It lasted one season and then fell apart. There were very few discounts that were included with the program that were not already available through other clubs.

The best way to approach the "club" thing is to either join a CT Ski Council or a non-house based club like ACE and supplement those discounts with something like the Ride and Ski NE Card and Lifttopia deals and SkiVT cards. This has been my MO. I wouldn't join an AZ club personally because I don't think it would be able to do any better than already established clubs. Just my opinion, sorry to be a nay sayer but there it is.

Starting a club is a PITA, and maintaining a club is a PITA. Been there, do that. You need a core group willing to stick with it year after year. Individual activities are easy to setup, but making it a going concern, recruiting and keeping members is hard work. Don't forget about the evil "L" word. All it takes is one incident to make members drop off the board, drop off of organizing things, there goes critical mass. Then there is financial risk. Sounds easy, bring in money, pay it out. Mistakes happen. Do you have a big enough till to handle the inevitable error? OK, write up a release we're covered. Well, maybe. Anyone can get a form. Skillfully managing the pitfalls of club risk takes time and experience. Established clubs get a lot more attention from the resorts and vendors.

I'd go for the established club any time.

Joining a club this week. Seems silly not to, 1 trip to a CSC appreciation day pays for the membership.

Joining CAST for the $15 family membership covers me and my kids.

I joined the Meriden Ski club last month, I just need to take advantage of it and get out for their ski days!
