Before the semester started in August, I asked Woodcore about trails in the Waterbury area for quick rides between classes. And then, I never got around to taking him up on his suggestion. In any case, I had a little time yesterday so I left the compound and went a-walking with my camera in hand to see what I could capture of fall's essence.
The trail itself is gravelly and well-traveled by horses. That is its intent. I did not come across any while on the trail, but there were 2 horse trailers in the lot. Any horse plop piles I encountered were on the sides of the trail so easy to miss.
I did not get far on the path because of my stopping to take pictures, but it was a nice oasis in Waterbury. It does go past a condo complex but otherwise, it feels like the deep woods (in the whole mile or so I walked ). I got up on the cliffs on the way back and came across a table top, singed pedestal to a table, fire pit, pallets, and some old tarps. Interesting.
Nice place to stop by if you have time constraints but want to get out for some fresh air. I'll be back. For biking, other than the initial short climb to the path itself, it's pretty flat.

This is a freelensing technique that I tried for the first time yesterday. You detach the lens but hold it close to the camera and shoot through it. I have a lot to learn about executing it effectively...
