Northeast & New England Ski Resort and Ski Area Locator Map

Brian and I have been working on this on and off since February and we are now pleased to announce version 1 of the Northeast & New England Ski Resort and Ski Area Locator Map! This map combines the power of the Google Maps API, AlpineZone ski area profile data, and SnoCountry.com ski report feeds to provide an interactive map showing all major ski areas in the Northeast U.S.! With this new map, you can:
    • Zoom in and out to view various ski areas and their relation to each other
    • Quickly browse ski reports of various ski areas just by hovering over the respective peak icon
    • View more detailed information, satellite imagery, and in some cases an AZ member photo and/or description of a ski area by clicking on a peak icon
    • Get Google Maps-powered driving directions based on your starting address or zip code
You can also view ski areas by state:

    http://skiing.alpinezone.com/resorts/map/?state=VA

We would love to get some additional feedback on the map and hope to have a final version rolled out by the start of the ski season. Please also let us know of any bugs or weird anomalies. Please note that the map is a bit slow to render in Internet Explorer and is a known issue with version 2 of the Google Maps API. Hopefully, they will sort that out soon. It loads quickly in Firefox. Finally, a very special thanks to Brian who quickly got familiar with the Google Maps API in order to pull this thing off. Thanks B!

This a is a great idea...

How do you minimize the text box once youclick on it for a resort? Also the the text box does not fit in the window of the map.

Also Attitash is in the same location as Bretton Woods.

    Keep up the good work.

There's an "X" in the top right corner. And yeah, sometimes the info balloon will scroll off screen. You can click, hold and drag the map to view the whole balloon.

Pretty nice. Last season I used SkiDweeb's site: http://www.skidweeb.com/
Might give you some more ideas.
I particularly liked that it gives you driving distances and vertical, and acreage. He also has granite gorge on there

It would be nice if it checked for whether or not data was available so that during the summer it could display something better than "null" for each item.

Pretty cool, though... I can see it being rather useful for trip planning. And perhaps even more useful for killing time on the computer.
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise noted, I speak only for myself, unless I'm saying something incredibly dumb, in which case I didn't say anything and you're hallucinating.

I like it. Good for exploring new areas. Wonder if you can get it to show distances between areas. Say if you clicked on one then another and get the miles between them. This winter I could not get good info when I wanted to get between Whiteface and some Vermont areas.
    Lets go!
    I'll drive.

Looks great! Thanks for all the hard work. FYI: It works on Safari.
