There's something very special about a ski day in the second half of April that features ample fresh snow with genuine powder turns early (some of them boot deep+) and then long silky surfy runs of cream cheese/mashed potatoes.
I'm too beat to go into a lot of detail now but when Wildcat has up to nearly a foot of fresh that has not been through extended freeze-thaw cycle and it's calm and up into the low 40s, well, it's mighty sweet. And then it near the end of the day it started snowing again at a decent clip. This was the last photo I took today, shortly before 3:30. If this wound up being my last run of the season it'll be a pretty good memory to tide me over.

Yes, Wildcat was a lot of fun today! Top half of the mountain with some day old POW and PP, mid mountain with mashers. Al's Folly was cool with some moguls and pushed POW, Topcat with soft bumps, few scrapes here and there but from talking Wildcat regulars most of the trail was bare last week! Upper Lynx had nice coverage too. This was a pleasant surprise for late April!

Yes, great surprise - especially after conditions in late March/early April - to be skiing natural snow trails now.
As an aside, the Gotamas were champs today. Even in heavier ungroomed down below it was Surfin' USA with those boards. |
