I was hoping to ski San Joaquin Couloir (behind me) but my backcountry partners had skied it a collective dozen times and weren't interested in skiing it again. The group decided on Ballard peak, which was a long 4-5 hour skin with about 5k of vertical required to get there) and maybe about 5 miles distance total, some of it downhill though which made things a little easier

We made the long slog to the top of Ballard Peak which overlooks town. It's a pretty narrow window to be able to ski this safely. Due to the time it takes to reach the top of the peak, the snow is often cooked and avy risk too great. The skies were overcast for the majority of the day, preserving the snow and the sun made an appearance about half an hour before we made our decent, allowing for plenty of visibility.

Top of ballard, beginning our 3k descent. The snow was pretty good up top, but pretty wet and manky at the bottom, making for some tiring turns. My legs were pretty shot by this point.

Despite my legs being shot, I decided that I had to make the trek up the mtn to ski gold hill #9 the next day.

Little Wasatch Face. If you can see a nearly clean line top to bottom, then it's been skied many times by locals. There's some insane terrain here.

Backside of T-ride :blink::blink:

The "birthing canal." I chickened out last time I was here despite plenty of "encouragement" from the peanut gallery. This time I went for it, it's not as bad as it looks.

Looks like some crazy terrain. Wolf Creek closed yesterday too fully loaded!

Wolf Creek is really weird with their opening and closing day. They once opened in October with a 6 inch base, people were literally skiing on grass.

They'll do a lot of random stuff just for the sake of publicity. $20 says they'll reopen last minute if it they have a large storm come through and it gets them some good press.

Last year the pushed the envelop and stayed open this year - throw towel in early. With the snow coming they may just pull such a stunt.

Couple more pics my friend took. I'm amazed how well these came out considering he took them on an iPhone

Hey SkiNEwhere. The AIARE Course at Fremont Pass? Is that right off of 40 near Berthourd? My son took an Avi course around that same time in that area. Wonder if you may have crossed paths?

That may have been a different course. The one I took was just south of Copper Mtn, near the Climax mine through Apex Mountain School.
