Resort or Ski Area: Saddleback

Conditions: Powder / PP

Trip Report: Well, it wasn't quite like last weekend's best day ever but it was another stellar day at Saddleback. But it was COLD. Temp didn't get above 5 degrees at the base... I imagine it was below zero up top... light wind at the top of the lifts but enough to bite pretty good... We really got used to "bottomless skiing" from last weekends 2 foot powder day so it took a while to get our legs under us again and "ski a bottom" again.

They got a few inches of fluff overnight freshening everything up nicely. They are BURIED. They have been picking up snow all week so there is a deep base everywhere. We didn't venture to Casablanca today due to the cold but the trees all over the mountain are skiing very well. Some obstacles starting to show on the steeper terrain (Notably Jane Craig and Upper Professor) but overall cover is very good.

Pretty good crowd but they were inside a lot. Ski on to the lift all day. It was Mountain View Vertical Challenge day. We did the gate run and both Boyz smoked me. I stink at gate racing but my boyz are getting good.

Couple-o-pics:

Wife on top steep pitch of Golden Smelt. Still has great cover. You know the cover is good when the old man can take the line over the cliff. We did the Smelt a bunch of times. Love this trail.

Left side of Peachy's Peril skied GREAT. Probably one of the better runs I have had on this trail.

We did venture one time to the top to visit Dark Wizard. The fog you see is the snow making from Tight Line. Made it look pretty and mysterious. The Wizard Calls....

I popped out onto Supervisor from Dark Wizard. Still gobs of snow on the bottom of this trail.

I'm gonna wait till it "warms up" You know, maybe to 15 or so :)

You do know this is New England, It is skiing and it takes place when it is cold. I guess being raised in Maine makes 5 degrees really not seem that cold.

I was kinda making a joke that didn't come thru  My bones are pre-frozen, my blood is anti-freeze, having been born in Massena NY, just about the same latitude. :) The cold doesn't bother me much, I skied Saddleback when we awoke to -20 and it warmed up to -5.

One morning, I think I was about 9, we thought we were having a heat wave, having warmed up to about 20F. We played outside in T-shirts, till our mother saw us and made us put jackets on :)
